Release Candidate Browser 1.20.0
While the new release candidate has some very good things in it, it also has a few critical problems. They are what's known as "show-stoppers" - in other words, changes made which render the release client completely unusable.
To whit:
1) The "Friends" tab is missing from the map screen. I use it on a daily basis, and rely on it being where it is, when I need it. The extra steps required to use the new profile-based system are not acceptable. Making things more difficult, and requiring extra steps to perform what were originally simple tasks is not a "new feature" - it's a mistake.
2) Teleport prompts no longer pop the map up, they pop up the info card for the land plot you're going to. That is completely useless. The map screen is far more valuable, information-wise than the info card is, especially if teleport is set to "landing point" and isn't dropping you exactly where you want to go. This pointless change needs to be undone.
3) The shiny blue and silver skin that comes with the new release candidate is too bright, and clashes horribly with everything else onscreen. If you must release a "skin" with the browser, release one that exactly replicates the look and feel of the old, normal browser down to the last detail. The stock appearance of the browser should not change, even in the slightest. Any alteration to the look should be provided separately, as an optional add-on.
There may be more, but for now these are the big three. They were bad ideas, and they need to be dumped from the client, immediately.

Having looked at the various movies Torley has taken great pains to make, most are now muted as Orientation tools, due to layout changes in the new Client (which I haven't bothered with). Another typical issue of 'someone' at LL thinking, 'I know what would be great idea' and then it gets implimented before another person says, 'what about how this works, or that?'.... Standard Client, FirstLook, Windlight, Release Client, Dazzle... how many more variations of these have been rolled into eachother?
Upgrade/Update does not equal Progress......

"Upgrade/Update does not equal Progress......"
yeah. "hey we are out of ideas how to improve the existing tools. LETS MAKE NEW ONES OR GET RID OF OLD STUFF!!"
way to go lindenlab. every of my friends aggreed with me that its totally dumb to remove the friends drop down menue from the map window. i mean, if you only have a few friends, then its prolly not such a pain. but oh hello i have over 100 people on my friendlist, another friend has far more since he owns some land. and now its just a damn pain to keep track of your friends because PROFILE>SHOW ON MAP.
from the blog: "There was some confusion over how the feature worked, making it seem broken to some. The friends map dropdown only displayed online friends who allowed you to see them on the map — which was usually a very small subset of your entire friends list. Our Rx team recommended removing this feature from the map.
You can instead find a friend on the map by opening their profile and clicking on ‘Find on Map’."
Idiots.

I have to agree with you on this, I noticed those issues as well, But the one that bothers me the most is the blue color scheme, And your right, They should give us an option to add in our own color scheme.

I don't mind the changes too much, they're tolerable, and I like that they removed the "find friend" from the world map. I don't think the world map should pop up every time you want to teleport somewhere, as rendering the map is a huge process and slows down the client and whatever else I have running at the same time.
What I DO mind is that the rendering quality has gone down considerably on my computer. I used to get a "glowy" look from some of my skins and some builds, etc., and now that glow is gone. Everything looks flat and somewhat colorless as compared to how it looks in the previous clients, whatever I do to the preferences and graphics settings. I'm going to have to get a better graphics card to render at the same quality I've gotten up to now. How does one report that as a "bug?"

I agree some of the UI changes are kinda..meh. Overall though I think it's pretty nice. But about the skin. You know you'll be able to choose from multiple skins? This is the standard bright one. Read the roadmap, more than half the entire Dazzle project involves multiple skins, even the old one.

Making Dazzle Look More Or Less Like Previous Versions
04-13-2008 08:54
(Note: I installed this and it looks good to me, YMMV) http://www.rpgstats.com/SL/Dazzle-Retro.zip Contains the custom colors.xml file and darker images http://www.rpgstats.com/SL/Dazzle.zip - Contains a blank colors.xml file and the Dazzle UI images (for those who wish to revert without a re-install) Extract the zip file of your choice, there will be two folders. "app_settings" and "skins" Copy the content of those two folders into the right places in your SecondLifeReleaseCandidate program folder ( on windows this is C:\Program Files\SecondLifeReleaseCandidate\ by default ) If you do like it and want to make a donation of some kind... Just send it to Thraxis Epsilon in SL.

i say screw keeping the skin and UI any certain way. Why not just make it totally configurable? I don't mind most of the changes but i must say some things are an inconvenience. However, to say they are "show stoppers" is just being a plain old diaper pooping boohoo head.
