I'm really enjoying the Focus Beta client. The GUI is cleaned up, and Ctrl-Enter to start typing is turning out to be a LOT more handy than I thoguht it was going to be.
But, there is one feature that I BEG you to remove. Shift-Enter at the end of a line of chat will make it a shout. This is a giant pain. If a sentence ends with a !, ?, or any emoticon there's too great a chance to shout it to everyone. I've been bitten by this 'feature' way too much.
PLEASE remove Shift-Enter, or change it to Ctrl-Enter or anything else. Thank you.

The other small problem with Ctrl+Enter is on a lap there normally is not a Ctrl next to the enter key. This makes it a two handed operation now. Hitting Enter alone bring the Foucs to the chat bar but have to hit Ctrl+Enter to leave.

Well if I'm typing, I have both hands on the keyboard anyways, so Ctrl-Enter doesn't bother me. But I was just suggesting Ctrl-Enter again at the end of typing to send a shout. Regular chat should still be just a normal Enter.

Definitely agree with the shift to shout change if possible. I am forever saying "oops sorry beta client" for shouting out anything ending in ! or etc ! - even a ctrl-shift-enter combo for shout would be better. Other than that having a great time with the beta client

Much as I love all the other improvements in the Focus Beta Client, last night I switched back to the regular client because of this. This 'feature' just ruins the client for me. Please LL, remove it.

I don't understand why Shift+Enter could be confused with "!" sign? Both shift and "!" is on the far left side of the keyboard to me

While ctrl-enter may or may not be a good idea for opening chat, and shift-enter might cause a problem when punctuating, I do know for certain that ctrl-enter for shout drove me nuts! I use ctrl-enter to send in all other IM clients so that I can insert new-lines with enter. I was forever switching back and forth and shouting in secondlife. My only request is that if you change shout from shift-enter, you don't change it back to ctrl-enter, pretty please .

From: Nargus Asturias I don't understand why Shift+Enter could be confused with "!" sign? Both shift and "!" is on the far left side of the keyboard to me It's not that the enter is being confused for another key, but that the shift key is being held down a fraction of a second too long. I use my left hand to press shift with my pinky, so if my left and right hands aren't in sync, I'm still holding shift after typing !,?,",etc and hitting Enter with my right hand, resulting in shouting to the world. Frankly, I don't see why there needs to be any shortcut for shouting. Shouting isn't something that you need to do often, so why bother with a key combination that can get in the way?

I most often find myself shouting when I as ka question, or end the sentence with a quote... Those chars are nect to the return key and have to press shift to type them.

Yeah, we agree about the shift-enter thing. We're restoring the old key commands. Unfortunately, we're left without a keyboard shortcut to go to chat from anywhere in the UI (what Ctrl-Enter was meant to do), but hopefully in the future we can come up with something.

I guess we could just have no shortcut for shout as Ketra suggests, or have it be something uncommon like Ctrl-\

I'd vote for none. Given a choice between no shortcut for chat, and no shortcut for shout... uh ya, definitely none for shout.

It's not that there would be no shortcut for chat, Enter would still work to bring up chat. But you'd have to give focus to the world first (which is basically the situation now). I agree that chat is way more important than shouting, though.

You're right, it's "Look at last chatter". Thanks! Anyway, I'm sure we could find some sort of semi-obscure unused key combo for shout.

Hahahaha, OMG THAT'S where the shouting comes from!
It was happening to me too, and I DO have a lazy shift pinky. I frequently type "THen" rather than "Then".
I saw someone shouting, then they were mad about it doing that and were using more !!! and they were shouting even more and were getting more upset about it. Yes, it makes logical sense but... probably should be reworked. Correcting a spurious shifted character is no big deal, but shouting something embarassing or well anything at all you didn;t want half the sim to hear is just not fun.

So, are you keeping Ctrl-Enter to bring up chat anyways? Becayse I REALLY like that shotcut. It's the Shit-Enter for shout shortcut that's getting on everyone's nerves. Actually, would it be possible to let us set our own keymaps? That would solve everyone's problems.

Doh. >_< I'm sure there is a Linden with a sketch of the key map so they can find an available out of the way key combo... =P

Unfortunately, we're left without a keyboard shortcut to go to chat from anywhere in the UI (what Ctrl-Enter was meant to do), but hopefully in the future we can come up with something. Couldn't the ctrl-enter command be context sensitive, and shout if the chat box is already opened and focused, otherwise bring it up and focus on it? Although I'd still prefer just being able to press enter to bring up chat, at least from the inventory, the new way of dealing with the ui seems more like it was just added as a formality, it doesn't seem any more convenient, just more complex and more of a hassle to deal with on a regular basis.
