Automatic day-night cycle in Windlight?

I wanted to know about something... I see in Windlight the sun doesn't cycle any more accordingly to the sim's hour. I know about the Environment Editor the client has, where you can "play" a cycle in X minutes, but you have to open it all the way and set it each time you relog and that's annoying.

So is there any way to either make it work with the region sun, either set the editor to start the cycle automatically each time you log in, so once I log in and open the client it starts to cycle automatically?

Having the day night cycle client side is also going to play hell with things like lights that come on automatically at dusk and sundials.

So, I have the day-night cycle editor like here http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/3806/editorug6.jpg , set "Length of Cycle" to whichever value I want for a full cycle, then I click play and it does a full loop in that time. My question is just if there's any way I can make it play automatically and remember these settings when I start up my client and log in?

Is there not an option to just use estate time? Mine when set to default (when I still had windlight skies turned on) worked just fine with the usual day/night cycle, as my lights were still coming on as it got dark.

That's interesting... on my side, using default estate time on Windlight just sets it to 8am or something and it stays there forever... on sims where in the normal client the sun cycles well. There was such an option to use estate time and cycle over it? Is there one in the current Windlight too?

Try a different location -- perhaps that sim has a bug or needs a reset. Go some other place where you know the sun cycles and see if it does with Windlight.

The next question is whether it's just you or anyone using windlight wherever this is happening.

I understand perfectly what he is saying here. Screw the estate time..alot of sims have it set to night or noon where it doesnt cycle anyway.

What he wants it for example to be able to set a 24 hour cycle the way he wants it ...or 2 hours or 4 hours or whatever and then have windlight follow that cycle whenever he relogs. Now you have to manually go in and set that up every single time you load windlight and it totally sucks.

They also need to make it where you can save and share your cycles with others for instance your friends or partner so you are on the same page and one of you isnt looking at sunrise and the other at sunset :P

No there is no way to autoload your cycle...have to do it manually every time :P

Ah, I see now in that case. Well, if Linden Lab are ever accidentally so bored to read their own forums, and randomly read this topic... could you please take a few minutes off your lifes to make a savable cycle for Windlight that loads when you start up the client when you make the next update? As that would be great...

Ah, I'd personally file a JIRA for it, go to http://jira.secondlife.com and log-in with your Second Life account details. Be sure to search in case it's already listed, if not then create a new issue. I'd probably file this as a bug, as daylight cycles /should/ really save. They should also be able to sync easily enough based on estate-time, all it takes for the estate to send it's clock-time and your viewer can apply your cycle to that, when someone else logs in with the same settings then they will sync to whatever the time is now, and should be identical to you (if you have the same settings of course).

Not much reason to think synchronization is a real issue.

I see in Windlight the sun doesn't cycle any more accordingly to the sim's hour.

Personally I wouldn't worry about client-server discrepancies during First Look; the whole issue could disappear when WindLight becomes a part of the server code. At that point the regions' default day-night cycle will be controlled through a fully-featured WindLight-friendly interface (the same one that you can currently use to control your days client-side), so it seems less likely that the Windlight viewer will have issues with daytime synchronization after they're through implementing that.

Then again, if you still want to the ability to set your own personal daytime pattern that stays through relogging and all that, then yeah that's a valid JIRA issue.

I love the effects of windlight, but personally suspect the sky/water view should be set by the sim owner, and even day/night cycle. But I also realise it's a bugger building stuff in the dark, or only one light setting. So think there should be a default estate option. With private override for content creators or others who desire it.

Windlight looks indeed just splendid! But I am very annoyed at how many resources they made it have to take >.> I mean the thing that eats away most resources is the "Atmospheric shader"... why does it have to eat so much and decrease my fps like that? Basically it just changes color concentration and adds some distance fog, no?

Will they try make Windlight work faster with all the new details in the future when it's out of first look and a complete normal client, or did Linden get some policies with a company to get paid for pushing people to upgrade more so we all have to suffer from that?

As for the day/night thing, I believe each person should have the choice to either set the sim sun to cycle locally for them how they want to, either by the region time. So, if I want my own day-night cycle it's my thing, and if I want the same as everyone on the sim and region itsself, I go to the region one with a click.
