Selected NVIDIA forceware drivers have problems with shiny objects in the Windlight client. These drivers may also cause shaders to fail to load.

Known drivers to have problems:
169.01
169.02
169.04
169.09
169.10
169.13
169.17
169.21

Be prepared to downgrade your drivers if you install the 169 series of drivers.

This is still broken in 169.17.
Edit: And 196.21.

From what I've read .21 is a WHQL candidate, which means it may get to WHQL status without this being fixed.

Unfortunately 8800GT CANNOT be downgraded as it is one of the newer video cards.

I am not so sure it IS the drivers as opposed to poor LL coding. I had an ATI X1300...LL cannot get the water shader to work with sky shaders on...blames ATI and says the next driver update MAY fix it. May? I can get water and sky both in other games, so what is LL NOT doing right?

So I go out, get an nvidia 8800GT. Install it with the old drivers on CD...guess what? Same shit, different day. Sky works, no water (but water is colored UNDERWATER if you choose Valdez or Second Plague). Try with new drivers .25, same. Soooo, LL is blameless, but both ATI AND NVIDIA some how screwed up drivers for MULTIPLE versions on most if not all card models, but ONLY with SL? Not buying it, Strife. Multiple shaders working great in other games, but not SL, sounds more like LL's normal level of skill.

Soooo, I do hope you can see WHY I am just a BIT irritated at LL? Thank you for you rpost, but can you point me to one of the magic Forceware ones I can downgrade to to get it to work. NOT happy upgrading to a $250+ video card just to find out that (supposedly) the drivers are just as hosed as ATI's....

New Windlight Viwer bring us back our sea!! No need to wait for new 8800GT driver!! We need to go to download it manually. Reminder: sky rendering has problem. We need to tune the detail to "mid" for fix it.

The 169.21 drivers seems to cleared up all sort of problems. Very happy at the moment!

Using latest NVidia 169.xx drivers on 8800GTS 640mb and there are still no shaders in the windlight or regular viewer. This is on two identical machines.

Forceware 169.38 for 32bit Windows XP works, the shaders seem to be enabled now.

[EDIT]

I was wrong, seems they only work in Windlight, not the normal viewer, sorry.

Nvidia GeForce FX 5200

Hi
i have Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 with 6.14.11.6921 driver

the reproduction on the monitor is without contrast, so quite tasteless and not very brightly. If I switch with hardware brighter, everything is illuminated. Now I am with old viewer on the way again
greetings Ulla

Will the GTX 260 card work, guys? I'm not up on this technical stuff at all, it's just what was recommended to me as a good card. And is ATI better than NVidia for SL?

I use the EVGA GTX 260 and it rocks. I think NVIDIA is better than ATI for SL.
