Hi:

On my PC can't load FL if latest Zone Alarm anti-Virus is running. This is new with the latest version.

BTW Zone Alarm uses Kaspersky AV.

ZA has done some really odd things for me , like deny access to places even tho they where on permit list, uninstall it, restart, reinstall usually fix it tho.

That prog tend to have a wierd random lockdown of random progs now and then for me.

Reminds me of how many times I've added SLexchange to Hotmail's "this isn't junk to stupid ****er" and the manualy created filter "put anything from SLex in my inbox." It still ends up in my junk folder.

I've never found ZoneAlarm to be anything but a nuisance for anyone who's willing to be responsible for their web browsing.

You'll get more security by dumping Internet Explorer, Outlook, and anything else that uses Microsoft's browser object (the HTML control).

That also reminded me how stupid Hotmail junk filter is...I've reported countless number of junks using their tools for years, and they never seem to learn a bit from it. Cheer for Gmail and Yahoo Mail!

Junking stuff in Hotmail is moderaly effective for me. Used my current account for years now and only recently saw *any* actual spam in my inbox.

ZA is not exactly the most game friendly program as I have found out. Its great if you have programs that dont have weekly updates. Everytime a game updates..ZA has to be told to allow access. No matter how many times you have told it, it will recognize the game as new because the coding has changed. This is not a glitch but is how its intended to work. Anytime a program on your computer that accesses the net changes..it will recognize it as a new program and block it till you tell it its ok to accept.

While ZA is a good program...i woud not recommend it for anyone who does online gaming.

btw there is no work around for this. This is info that a tech for ZA customer support gave me. He said if the game i play is updated every 7 days, I could either turn ZA off when playing or just tell it to accept connections when an update is done. I ended up removing ZA from my computer cause..well...when you got a husband and kids whom all play different games on teh same computer...ya get tired real quick of them fussing after update days

I dispute the idea that ZA is a "good program".

At the best it's a necessary evil, and I'm not convinced of the necessary part.

In defense of ZA :-)

Zone Alarm is one of the few truly stealth firewalls on the market passing all Shields Up Port and Leak tests ( https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2)

The latest ZA Security Suite uses Kapersky Anti-Virus. There is NOTHING better than Kaspersky AV for detection, cleaning, hourly updates, and low resource use. (* The firewall packaged with Kaspersky's Internet Suite leaves a lot to be desired. For starters it is not true stealth)

The latest ZA is game friendly. There is a new Game setting that prevents any interruptions while gaming. (I do not find it burdensome to have to click my mouse 3 times in the appropriate boxes whenever SL updates.)

ZA does not interfere with videos on YouTube and such as does Trend Micro, Bit Defender, Kaspersky Internet Suite and others.
