Slow the clouds down, make the default lighting more sensible and its very impressive.

On the downside, its only impressive if your standing at sea level or not far from it. Flying gives you a horrible hard horizon like with warped bowl effect for the sea.

Skyboxes are a nono. the ground is to far away to render so you get a lovely sky, hard horizon and giant cyan fish bowl below - u g l y

Low clouds are a must, please put them in.

The ability to make dramatic lighting is really nice and adds a while new dimension to SL, so im really looking forward to themed atmospheric builds. OTOH, it doesn't help anybody selling a texture based product (hence the need for sane, dare I say it, boring defaults)

Clouds? what clouds? I don't see ANY clouds. The horizon gap has been noted and they're looking for a fix. Other than that, I see the sky as a cube with every face having a different tone of blue (or black). The sky is very pretty as long as I stare in one direction only...

They work fine on my home PC but not at work; it's something to do with your graphics card.

If you don't have the "Enable Vertex Shaders" setting turned on in Edit > Preferences > Graphics Detail (or it won't turn on), then you won't see the clouds.

For the most part, just gorgeous. The sky and moving clouds are lovely, but the distorted land when viewed from high up is really disorienting and disturbing. As for the cloud layer that hangs at about 200m or so in the regular viewer, I vote for keeping it off. IMO it always created too much lag when trying to fly, especially in highly populated and developed sims.

They need to raise the skydome to at least 1000 to 2000 Meters. At the max building height of 768 Meters everything should look just as normal as it does at sea level. Until they can offer at least that much compatability, Windlight is simply not ready for release, no matter how good it looks on the ground.

When flying at anything less than the skydome height minus 200 Meters or so, things should at least look relatively normal, even if well above 768 meters.

If above the skydome, some sort of "fade to stars" effect should be stuck up there.

The "enable Vertex Shaders" box is greyed out on my preferences; does this mean my graphics card simply will not support it? I DLed the stinkin Windlight viewer for clouds & cool skies but so far have seen "night" completely black everything out and the sun never move from noon, no matter my settings. Meh.

Pretty much. What card do you have?

It won't matter soon though since the windlight is supposed to be replaced with the voice firstlook today. Windlight will come back later and hopefully with volumetric clouds this time :)

I don't know what card I have :O It's whatever came in the computer 2 yrs ago :P Probably obsolete before I bought it, I'm sure. *rolls eyes*

Too bad. I liked the idea of Windlight much more than voice. Oh well.

They have supposedly fixed the problem with vertex shader crashing. But due to the fact that they have removed windlight from First Look for the moment, we can't really know if the fix will actually work for us. It's a shame, too. Since I had the same problem, I was looking very forward to actually using windlight as it was intended. But I guess for now, it's all about the voice chat.
