I use SL on a Lenovo T60 laptop, 2gb RAM, Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family.
After the last upgrade, about every time I connect the external monitor, SL crashes.
As you know, this operation may brings you to change the video resolution. (in my case the ext. monitor is 1280x1024, while the laptop is 1400x1050 native)
Until RC7, this operation gave no problems.

Does it generate a crash-report at all? Best to submit those, and if you can, copy/paste it and put it in a JIRA issue (jira.secondlife.com, log-in with SL log-in details) with your system info. It's probably something silly like it trying to re-calculate the window size
