What a shame. I find the HTML based search cumbersome
and nearly useless. With the old search the results were
displayed in single lines with a number that gave some
indication of the popularity/traffic of the location.

Doing a search on dance in All results in over 30,000
results.

It displays the first 10! Ha! No indication that I can see
of any popularity or traffic stats. But! if one clicks on
an entry to see the details you can learn about some
of the objects that are there. That must take some
serious CPU cycles to present.

I guess most people are OK with the direction Search
is going.

I never liked all/old anyway. Popularity never really mattered to me but for clubs, it makes sense. There are interface improvements they could make - I definitely prefer the old layout. But I prefer the results generated by the new search.

HTML search is awful.

It's impossible to find places now because the results also go off of what a place might also be selling, giving simple searches 6000 results.

It also doesn't help that you can only read 10 at a time.

Or 8 and half the name of the 9th, if you can't scroll.

HTML search is all fine and dandy. Maybe some people like it better. I'm fine with HTML search existing, but if they have it, they should allow you to choose between the new HTML based and the old awesome based. I can't use HTML based, for whatever reason, and now they are limiting me even further in what I can search for.

I'm down to Classifieds, events, land sales, and people. I use people occasionally, so I'm sure that's next to go.

The thing I really dislike about the new search is that you can't view a place on the map from the search window. I was using All (new) to find stuff and then finding it in Places to see it on the map. Doesn't work now Places has changed.

I also liked the way that All and the individual tabs found different results for the same search terms, using the two together gave better overall results I found.

I've been pointing out the reduced usability and cumbersomeness of HTML search vs the Search / Places for months, it's not something they'll even pretend to listen to seriously. They only want to hear how excited you are and how great and amazing and useful the new search is .

Hrm, the new search engine is better in theory, though it still has serious bugs in listing places (i.e - it doesn't, but still charges you for it!) that desperately need to be fixed. I think it's more of an interface issue than anything else; I prefer the old interface, where you get a nice big list of top results for your search, and can view a whole host of information in the pane on the right of that list.

I'd prefer to have that view style back with the new search-engine powering it (minus bugs).

Even if it's HTML-based, that view was better, quick links to teleport/map were very handy, and the ability to view them, along with parcel information, without having to switch to a different page was great. Perhaps they could do a sort of middle-ground where by you get a list of results, with classifieds on the right, then when you click on a classified or search result it expands to give the description plus buttons for teleport, map and more-info.

Stupid search results
06-25-2008 10:39
I think the new search sucks, i get stupid results on search, when i search for "hacienda" and i see on PAGE 1 a search result as "pakhuis hangplek" ( i searched the whole group and parcel for Hacienda but couldend find nothing that even looks like it) is for me the evidence that the new search is useless or there must be some secret Linden tag you can BUY and use to put you on the first page.

Well, since that engine is powered by Google...I think you've to say the same to the google search too...

They'd have to write code to do that. Don't get your hopes up too much.

You are right, though.
