I've just tested out this new feature. Looks promising but not sure if it's interactive as couldn't scroll down the page. Looks a great new plus for SL, I'll come back to it again soon, though the test is over for now. One possibility is that this parcel media thing might increase the usefulness of 16m lots - maybe that's why LL is tightening up controls on misuse of such lots right now.

No, at this point it's not interactive. The one thing I really like is that you can have a web browser in the SL viewer now...no starting an external web browser. This is handy of you use objects (HippoTECH stuff) that can be managed over the Internet.

yeah and it was in the profile in the web tab but not in-world. however, if you code a small website (like your fashion blog or customer support ticket system) in the right page resolution I can see a good value in this as it is at the moment but it's about time that LL gets youtube enabled for streaming....

Once they get Flash support included in this it will be extremely useful and a great feature for land owners to have. Right now this is nothing more than a preview.

if you code a small website (like your fashion blog or customer support ticket system) It's true that we've been able to access the browser for a good while through various means, but in 1.19.1 we aren't cheating, we aren't being sneaky or geeky, so there will probably be a lot more people using the inworld browser - which will mean maybe some of those micro-stores and micro-wikis and micro-chatrooms and micro-forums that will fit in our mozilla browser that I have been wanting for so long will finally appear. We had the ability to manually use the web browser for a while, but in 1.19.1 the llLoadUrl command can load an url into inworld browser - this is new, right? I have a page of wiki info showing on a prim right now. This web stuff inworld and the ability to more fully use the inworld browser might even entice me to buy a little plot of land again for the first time in years. I would greatly appreciate any help in scripting the use of the new parcel media commands. I haven't owned any land for years and barely remember the use of the old music url and video url fields and the scripted control of those features. I've hardly done any scripting at all for a long time. I have temporary access to a small parcel for testing this new feature at. _____________________

I have a screen that displays a web page. Clicking on the screen makes it load a new url iinto the parcel media, so you see a new web page. I have a separate object that you click when you come to a page that you that you like on the screen, that loads the url with llLoadURL so it appears in your web browser, which for many folks would be the inworld browser.
Can anyone think of any sneaky things to do with these new abilities? How would you make a button on a web page change the url displayed on a parcel in SL? _____________________

Embed YouTube videos?

Webpages that are not interactive - i.e. no scroll bar and no hyperlinks - aren't webpages, but textures

Parcel media RC 1.19.1
03-08-2008 09:29
YES! And it's BRILLIANT!
Had just completed a machinima project http://blip.tv/file/704807 (shameless promotion) and was in the middle tackling of the streaming problem. Last night - followed the instructions - and there it was - like magic! Are the Linden's mind readers? ![]() Anyway - I had expected it to play ON the prim - so the viewer in a viewer effect was a surprise - and definitely not "immersive" - but, I was more surprised that I was able to do it at all, all things considered. And it even LOOKED good! Don't have to suffer through YouTube encoding anymore! Virtual kisses to whoever spent all that time creating this. _____________________

Centering of webpage on prim
03-10-2008 22:56
My webpage loads in the bottom left corner of the prim and leaves a lot of the prim blank, no matter how I resize the prim. Is there a way to center it or fill it on the prim? I did watch Torley's three videos on the subject...
Thanks! ![]() |

Click the "auto-scale" check box on the media tab.
I don't even know why this is a choice since, like you saw, it seems to not work well at all without it ![]() |

I'm using it!

Anyone use RC 1.19.1 parcel media web content? I'd like to see what you're using it for. I've developed an LSL script to make parcel web browsers using the new web features. I have one on display at my store and I'm trying to get my neighbors to use them as interactive information kiosks at the "common area" for visitors to our sim. A parcel owner just has to say "Go http://yourwebsite.com" and the page changes on the prim. Clicking on the prim will run llLoadURL for the in-world browser. P.S. - The script is also open source ![]() |

I have a piece of land to play with again now.
I'm heading off to Antonius's store. Anyone have any further comments on the uses of both the static web page on a prim or the uses they are putting the embedded browser to? _____________________

I'm viewing the second life forums on a prim using llParcelMediaCommandList and the bottom of the page is cut off.
Is there a way to get the entire page to show up? _____________________
