Sorry this notice is so late, but we weren't sure if we were going to make it in to this week's release. But if all goes well, we will release the improvements we made to Tab and Ctrl-Tab behavior, window management, menu access via Alt key, and all the minor bugs we fixed. Those were really the core of our Focus project, and we wanted to get them out as soon as possible.

The chat behavior in the Focus Beta won't be in the release, nor will the numpad movement. We felt that those deserved more attention and polish and we'll attack them later. Definitely the chat changes have struck a nerve, since we've received more comments on that than anything else, and approximately evenly split positively and negatively. We're going to be conservative and not change the existing behavior, so I'm sorry if you loved the changes in the Focus Beta.

Releasing a feature viewer really helped us decide what to keep and what to revisit in our design. Thanks to all the bug reporters and survey-takers and feedback-givers!

I, being one of the ones very strongly against the new way, think that it probably COULD be made so that people of both sides would be happy. May require the admittedly PITA solution of allowing users to choose between fixed (as you are proposing) and modal (as the old method is) systems...

If I HAD to choose between two fixed systems
1) Arrows move AV, number pad edits, or
2) Arros edit and number pad moves av
I would very VERY much prefer #1

possibly if you ultimately don;t want to support both fixed and modal systems, atleast give a switch to slect between #1 and #2? In that case I will just setup my Nostromo speed pad and use that for moving and #1 for editing and I could live.

However I would very very very much prefer having the modal design as now...

My opinion:

Keep arrow keys as they are in the old client (i.e. with a toggle in prefs that determines whether they are used for chat or movement when the chat window is up)

Ctrl-Enter to pull up the chat window is a godsend. Please keep.

Shift-Enter at the end of a line of chat to shout is unacceptable. Please have Shift-Enter acting like Enter as per the old client.

New GUI appearance is a large improvement, please keep.

Same here. My laptop (and most laptops I've seen) DON'T HAVE number pads. Or if they do, it's gotten by holding down a funtion key (Fn) and using 7,8,9,u,i,o,j, and l (for 7,8,9,4,5,6,1,2, and 3 respectively)--which is what I have. It's a pain in the tail to use and I'd quit SL the moment I had to use it to move around.

I think some of you are hyper focusing, or making false assumptions. As I understand it, and the way the original Feature Viewer worked was that the NumPads directional keys worked in ADDITION to the WASD and Arrows. Also, the numpad becomes a "Directional Pad" when you have num lock off...

So this would have zero impact on laptop users unless they decided to use the FN key.
