I can't stay connected for longer then it takes me to enter SL before the mini map turns red 15 seconds later. I didn't have this problem yesterday. Well, later that evening into early AM this morning I noticed the client was loosing fps
I recently got cable to connect to the Internet vs. DSL. Cable is very fast on web sites so that shouldn't be the problem. I tired both viewers neither one of them keeps me connected. Anything I can check?

System info?

What OS are you running? (Vista, WIn XP, Mac OSX, Linux, Other?)
What video card do you have, and how much VRAM is on the card?
How much RAM do you have?

A hard-wired connection to a cable modem service should work great. If you are not trying to go wireless, then the video card or your drivers might be the cause of your problems.

A wireless connection from your home router to your computer is a very bad idea.

I haven't had any problems at all...ever running SL even after the few short days after setting up the cable service. This computer (XP) exceeds the SL minimum requirements. But like you mentioned this computer is using a wireless usb adapter to get the signal from the other computer down stairs. I'm getting a connection at 54.0 mbps. The computer downstairs is getting 100.0 mbps

We're suppose to be paying for a 16 mbps cable connection.

I'm getting roughly
7436 kbps down (~7.44 Mbps, 908 KB/s) ↓
1790 kbps up (~1.79 Mbps, 218 KB/s) ↑

10240 KB downloaded in 11.281 seconds
2048 KB uploaded in 9.375 seconds
Speed @ 212% of the average for osnanet.de
140 times faster than 56k dialup

Basic in world fps is around 23 fps (standing still in a skybox)
Packets in is in the high 30's
Packets out is around 15 tops.

It's always the client that crashes not the network or sever. Everytime I go to edit something or rez a simple box or even type a search word in my inventory that's when it happens.

Even with a rockin system and a fast Net connection, running a cable from your router to your computer is definitely worth a try - even if it is just to eliminate one possible cause. I have a similar system/connection and when I try to use a wireless router SL does not function properly. Drove me crazy til I broke down and tried a wired connection.

Even though I was getting reports of very fast download/upload speeds the wireless was apparently just not steady enough to be reliable for SL.

BTW, when you say your system crashes, do you mean that the SL client software crashes, your system locks up, or that you just get stuck in SL with no interactivity?

This probably isn't the problem, but it happened to me, so here it is.

I had the same problem as you a few months back. My viewer would just stop. It happened a lot. Finally after about a month of this, I got a very knowledgeable cable technician on the phone and she figured out that my UPS that my cable modem was plugged into was not big enough.

She explained that the cable modems do not like fluctuations in power, and will drop packets when it happens. The SL viewers do not like dropped packets, and you freeze in your tracks when you get too many.

Once I upgraded to a monster UPS, all my connection problems went away.

This all started during a venue om 7/31/08 at about 10pm and had an "earthquake" then after that I have been crashing and now can't login. I hace redownloaded and contacted support, where I was advised to try earlier version. As soon as I it connect it crashes. I had received a message that was XPCOM: Event Reciever SecondLife.exe Entry Point not found. The procedure entry point SEC_ASN1Encode Intergercould not be found in the dynamic link library nss3.dll. I am happy to know how to turn on a pc and just cant grap this message so if any techs out there have some savvy knowledge what I need to do I...I'll be so thrilled..:)

It was the cable that wasn't allowing me to stay connected. They haven't set the phone lines up yet so I uninstalled NETGEAR and went back to the DSL phone line, now SL runs perfect! So now I guess trying to get the cable company to configure NETGEAR so it runs SL. Maybe we'll have to do with out using cable for our phone company if it's going to be like that.

I tried SL on the computer downstairs with cable modem it didn't run SL either.
I found a web site Portforward.com but they don't have a port to configure Second Life....everything else but.

i cannot figure out what my connection problem is, i get kicked every 15 seconds. i even tried downgrading to an earlier viewer, and still no luck...in fact, i was getting kicked faster on the older viewer, which i was told had FEWER crashes. i cannot take 2 steps without crashing, i lag too bad, and everything i can do to fix it has so far been worth nothing...
