if the water can reflect stuff - because it is in a fixed plane, which makes it computationally less intensive than "free-form" reflections, how about select another fixed plane, an upright one, to let us have something more like a normal mirror?

Limit it to avatars, make it be one per parcel, don't allow it to reflect reflections, limit it's range, do whatever it takes to make it work out ok, I don't care; it sure would be nice to have some kind of mirror.
