Allowing my RL Wife/SL Partner to make my owned land her 'home'

I want to permit my RL Wife, who's also my SL Partner to set the land that I purchased as her 'home' . It allows me to do this, but not her.

This is what I tried so far:

First of all, our land is in the Crystal Islands, and we pay our tier to the Land Baron, not Linden.

- The land is owned by myself.
- I've created a group, and made my wife an officer in the group.
- I've given the group all the permissions to the land, so that she can create, modify, etc.
- I've deeded the land to the group.

But still, when she tries to set this as her home, it doesn't permit her to do so. It says she must own the land.

What else can I do?

Under the Group information window, there is a tab called "Members" You can click on your wife's name and then in the lwoer right of the Group window you will see "Assigned Abilities" check all you want. There is one specifically for "Allow Setting of Home Point" (or somethign close to those words) for setting home point.

Under "Roles&Abilities" tab on teh Group window, you could also make your wife part of the OWNER Role, which should give her all the Abilities by default.

Settings are off on a lot of Abilities by default to keep people from handing out Abilities to people by mistake. Good in most cases, a pain in others.

EDIT:: Tired and misssed seeing you made her an Officer already (which ~shoudl~ have given her the ability to set home point.). If you check an make sure she has the Ability checked, or try making her an Owner as well, and she still can't, file a Bug Report. Not much of answer, but best I have.

Dude, you are a true and good friend, and I love you like the brother that my mom claims she never had, but you are in fact acting like a flaming douche on white toast with a side order of dickknob salsa..maybe you should reconsider this course of action and we go find something else to do.

I had to take a section of land (16mx16m) and seperate it from the rest of the land, then Deed to group to allow my sl wife to set home on it. I then put here name on the access list box so she is the only one that can enter that spot. Then I later changed the location to another area of the land, did the same thing there and sold the last piece to myself for 10L. That's the only way I could get it to work. IM me if you would like to see how I did it.

There is a known bug right now that is preventing people who are part of a group from setting their home position on land that is deeded to that group, or set to that group. It's been repeatedly bug reported over the last few months.

The "normal" way to allow your mate to share your parcel as home space is to create a group for land access control, set your parcel to that group or deed it to that group, and then make them a member of that group, with the appropriate group role permission flags set to allow them to set their home position on group land. But that isn't working reliably at this time.

The workaround of sectioning off one 4M x 4M parcel from your land will work, but only on a private island, if they are not a Premium member. On the mainland, they would have to be a Premium member and have sufficient free tier space to add 16 M2 to their land holdings.

One thing that I have noticed is that someone who just recently joined a group does seem able to set their home position on group-owned land, while people who were already in the group might not be able to. Haven't diagnosed it beyond that stage.

Is there any other resource we can check to see if this issue has been resolved? While it is only a *minor* frustration to me, I am in the same situation exactly, only she's the land owner ;0).

This is also an issue with our tenant - unable to set home on the land.

We've tried everything but carving off a chunk of land - rather not do that if at all possible (I'm fine with just a landmark for now).

Thanks in advance!!

Media query - eve magazine - London!
01-17-2007 04:36
Hi there

Can't help with your query, I'm afraid - but wondering whether you can help me instead! I'm a journalist writing a feature for a UK women's glossy called eve (we're like US Marie Claire - see www.evemagazine.co.uk) and am looking for a woman who is 'married' in SL. Could you spare a minute to tell me your story about what it's like being married in SL? Did you have a wedding?

I have been into SL but it's difficult for me to get access as we have such strict firewalls! Could I instead ask you to email me at tanya.de-grunwald@haymarket.com as soon as possible?

Thank you so much!

We'll see if today's update clears this up. The last time I checked, the results were spotty. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. I know I have done it for mainland parcels, but I think I have not been consistent on private island parcels. Will try to check more after the update.
