can someone tell me where exactly i can find a gun shop -- i just bought a new house and feel i need some protection. can anyone help - thanks.

Actually, Type "Security Systems" into the Places Tab of your Search screen (Be sure to enable search of Mature lots). you will find Much more efficient methods of protecting Your Property.
If you are looking for Personal Protections, Type in "PsiTEC" or "ProTEC". These systems are probably the best ones out there for personal Defence. I'm shot at all the time when i'm working in the Sandboxes, and with this system, i hardly Notice it anymore.

Ill echo what Angelique said, check out the offerings from Aubretec and I would also add the DFSS to that list. both are available on SLExchange as well as in world. I personally prefer the land tools for home security. If you really want a gun then I would recommend Novum Inc as your source. my personal favorite there are the Breach Eagles and/or the Breach Glock 18c. What do you need protection from?

Though you can set your land to "unsafe" and within the letter of the ToS be able to shoot anyone on it--or get a security bot that warns and ejects anyone coming in--why bother?

Unlike the real world, it is very difficult for someone to:

Steal your stuff. The SL permission system will not allow that. Unless you specfically set items to permit it, people can not take, move, or modify items owned by you.

Harm or kill you. Unless you set your land to "unsafe" you won't take "damage" in SL (and if you did, the worst that would happen is you would "die" and be teleported back to your Home Location). If you are worried about being shot by push weapons, you can set your land to "push restriction" so they don't work.

Vandalize your land. You can prevent people from leaving junk prims on your land by setting the land not to allow others to rez prims there (or by setting auto-return to 10 minutes, so stuff left there vanishes within ten minutes). You can set the land not to run other's scripts, also. Finally, you should make sure your land is set not to allow editing of the land (terraforming) by anyone other than yourself.

The only thing left to worry about is trespassing. There are a number of ways to handle this other than shooting people or using an annoying to your neighbors security system.

Use a house with access controls. It will not allow anyone but you or people you authorize inside.

Don't care if they trespass. They can't do anything. If they won't give you your privacy, you can ban them. Your land has a ban list of up to 300 people under the "Access Controls" tab of the "About Land" window.
