kk, red faced, but desperate, I have a question. My dsl and phone are two different companies but paid on the same bill. This time it didn't, so I'm offline. :( EEK!

Here's the dumb part. When I signed up, I wrote down the info on dsl company, but over the past two years I forgot where I wrote info. I don't get a bill from them and can't remember name. ~Crosses fingers~ Is the info collected somewhere in my computer? OMG!!! I may actually have to go outside this weekend. ~shudders~

The information you seek most likely already exists in RL... please take a moment to search through your vast collection of lolcat pictures, wrestling mags (yeah... for "research purposes" only) and empty pizza boxes and see if you have an old bill or the original installation agreement somewhere.

Failing that, call the other company which was bundled with the service and ask them.

Wouldn't it be under the Network Properties somewhere?

Threw out pizza boxes and wrestling mags last nite and no luck. Phone company can't find either. I'll check properties 2-nite. Any one else with an idea, keep 'em coming. And thanks in advance since I can't really send any shout-outs from my place.

You need the name of your ISP?

If you used a regular email account chances are that anyone you emailed would have your net addie in the mail headers of any email you sent which should include the company name.

If you used webbased email then it should still be there as well, except for Gmail which doesn't report on originating IP.

As you engaged in the transaction(s) with the provider(s) of the bundled service you had an obligation to maintain your own records. Note that you did write the information down and then lost it. It's not our responsibility to maintain your records, find your car keys, replace your Nerf helmet, keep the dog/wombat/sea monkeys off your couch, etc. etc.

Your question, though technical, has nothing to do with Second Life. Take the time to get a grip on your own First Life.

NYC? Verizon, Comcast, Cablevision, Time Warner, Earthlink? try Googleing New York City DSL.

Identifying your ISP

Check your email client for the POP3/SMTP server settings. These may provide a clue as to who the ISP is.

It's not our responsibility...

No one is being strong-armed into answering. When someone in the SL forum community asks for help there are many people who will gladly offer what assistance they can, or even just say a kind word.

GAWD! Sorry Elex,

I just went through bank transactions on line and found it. Thaks all. I was basically just curious as to whether or not the info. was stored on my computer somewhere I didn't know about. I know it was my mistake, thus the red-faced part. The problem was indeed greatly hindering my SL experience. While I don't expect anyone to take responsiblity for my carelessness, I do thank you all for your responses (even you you little Smart Elex!). I will certainly check Network properties to see if it's on there as I never want to ask this again (didn't want to in the 1st place because I didn't necesarily want this in my post history (lol)). Maybe someone else is as much of a dodo as I am and will find some help too though. Thx again! CU on tha grid!!!
