If I want to have auto-return on, but not for it to affect one or two named people, is there any way to do it other than by creating a group and transferring the land to group ownership?
If not, do I have to go round setting every object already existing on the plot to the appropriate group?

Hello Daisy, in your 'About Land' you have an access list. I'm pretty certain anyone set in here with 'create objects' ticked will avoid auto-return.

Not sure of any other option than setting to group. When I deeded my old land to group I didn't have to set every object to group, just certain items like the TV and jukebox, they were set to work that way, though *shrugs*

I'd be interested to know another way too. However you're not obliged to "deed" the land to the group Daze, you just set its group to whatever ("Set..." button on the land window). You remain the owner, but the group you've selected obtains special rights such as no autoreturn for instance.

Ah, thanks Marine - that should be easy enough - though I was hoping to avoid having yet another group to worry about!

you do not have to 'deed' to group you can set land to a group without deeding it
and objects also set to group do not get autoreturned.

A big benefit of deeding, however, is that you get a 10% land tier increase this way. Especially with larger land holdings, this can be quite substantial and save a lot of $$ if you manage tier fees through 2+ accounts.
To answer the OP questions: Yes, you need a group and set the parcel to that group, but no, you don't have to deed the land.
The easiest way to set the group for the objects on the parcel is to select several of them at once and then change the group in one fell swoop using the object edit dialogue box. Just be careful not to select any objects on adjacent parcels; it won't work then.

Access lists only bans everyone else if you select 'allow only these avatars', the same way group land is group access only if you check 'only this group'

The land tier increase wouldn't affect me as the land is not mainland.
