The Humbug peak theory posits that for any given virtual area, from an individual sim to the grid as a whole, the rate of lag tends to follow a curve. It also shows how to calculate the point of maximum latency in advance based on prim loading, visitor traffic and camp chair population. Early in the curve (pre-peak), the latency increases slowly due to the amount of bandwidth available. Late in the curve (post-peak), latency increases dramatically due to the high number of free accounts online.

I liked resident answers before they closed it due to it becoming a general discussion, gripe session and esoteric musings forum. ;)

I liked it before residents started asking questions and then answering their own questions in the same post

I also like pie and cheese possibly with some ice cream as well and the pie heated up a bit..

so how does it calculate the point of maximum latency? Whats the math and where does it get the numbers for prim loading, visitor traffic and camp chair population.

I'd like to see the figures and calculations to support this...some nice graphs with curvy lines would be cool too...i like graphs

Wouldn't the actual data collected to prove/disprove any theory become very subjective, given the very dynamics of the platform/internet/bandwidth contention ratios/UpdateImage,UpdateCull,Server throttling,Cache latency etc etc etc..... Fit that into your Pie and see if little Jack Horner comes by...

This breaks down in managed areas.

If there is anything truly wrong with one of my sims, I'd do something about it.

And if a sim was totally empty I'd do something about that too.

I really wish this topic was appropriate for this forum and that people hadn't trolled it so aggressively. :(
