This is a question a friend of mine had and I didn't have an answer: (Thanks)
I have a quick question for you. It is possible to build assets outside of Second Life and important them in? Mainly I'm looking to model in 3DS Max. Do you know if this is possible?

Clarrice, I believe there is a tool, in the form of a script by Jeffrey Gomez, that can help you import (I use that word very loosely) items created in an outside 3D tool. Try searching the Building Tips forum for more information. However, it's important to note that ultimately things in SL still need to be constructed from prim. So using an external 3D tool is not a way to get around this limitation. You cannot import meshes or more complicated geometry. The tools which exist merely translate meshes into a series of prim that approximate the mesh - and sometimes in a very inefficient manner.
