Junk parcels

I'm chiselling away at my patch in Nadata bit by bit. The reactions of other land-owners to being asked if they want to sell are a huge entertainment, in themselves - from the guy who set his advert tower to L$24k, to the excellent fellow right beside him who let me have his 16 at cost, for L$250...

But: there are several smaller plots which seem to qualify as "junk parcels". I know about IMing Guy Linden to fix up orphan squares in the middle of my property, and that's worked well on a couple of occasions, but I now have one small square marked as "governor linden" which has a tower of crap (no better word for it) left on it, going 200m up with junk scattered around and - most annoyingly - a bloody campfire, burning continuously, about 150m in the air.

I expect this parcel was owned by an account that got zapped, and the land reverted to Governor; a shame they can't zap the objects on it when that happens. That one, and several others which look like experimental parcels bought by people with corporate accounts, played with, and just left, make the sim look messy.

Is there a procedure of sequestration or something? I'm happy to pay market rate for land, but when you sit there for six months and the "free lindens" shill-stand parcel never gets traffic, never sees an owner, nobody replies to IMs and the road it was supposed to be beside has never seen a vehicle, then one begins to feel restless.

Well, the answer when I asked a Linden about parcels with an absentee owner was that as long as the tier is paid up to date, it belongs to that person, period. End of road.

BUT for the junk parcels owned by Gov. Linden, you can ask Guy Linden to come over and set autoreturn on the parcel, so the junk goes poof and vanishes.

Land owned by Gov. Linden has usually been abandoned by the owner. You can contact Guy Linden and ask him to put the abandoned parcels back into the land auction queue. Be sure to mention both the region name and the coordinates of the parcels (the first two values shown in your title bar behind the sim name). You'll then have to watch the land auctions under http://secondlife.com/auctions/ until the land shows up, which sometimes takes a few weeks, and place a bid.
