I posted this in another thread but didn't get any responses so I'll ask it again.
I've only been on here for a few days but I've heard some really cool music in some of the places I've visited. Probably my favorite part about the game so far.
I was wondering, is there a way to see the artist and song title of the music playing? I'm assuming whoever is playing the music is using iTunes or some other streaming radio, or even their own playlist from their hard drive. All of these options show the artist and song titles.
Is there some sort of setting that I don't know about? Or is this just not possible?
Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Matty, it all depends on where you are. Some land owners hire dj's for special events and they are users who stream their own material in with speech. Other sound sources are Shoutcast but today I hear of iTunes. Others here much more qualified to comment.

I'd love to be able to stream Giles Peterson from BBC1 Radio.
I wonder if that's possible...

Good question Matty, SL doesn't have any way to show you the streams details thats playing, however I did make a little scripted object to display the stream title, song playing, number of listeners and previous songs, however you would need to know the media url address playing on the land. The SIS (shoutcast information service) object is freely available from my store in Mauve and just needs the script inside updating to use any valid shoutcast url. Lhorentso: Not sure if the BBC provide a suitable format for SL directly, they stick to real audio and windows media There maybe someone who relays this via a shoutcast stream.. looks like there is an unofficial relay for radio 1 here.. http://83.15.181.158:8000Jamie Steaming Live Audio - Shoutcast / IceCast Hosting HQ (Bisque 245,155)

Matty, the SL streaming guru (Jamie Otis) has just answered your question. I subscribe to his relay service and it's grand.
Be advised those URLs occasionally change.
If all else fails, you can wait 'till there's a song you know playing, go to Shoutcast, and search to see who's playing it. Listen to the shoutcast stream and maybe you will discover the media source URL.
Alternately, you can IM the landowner and ask what URL they're using. Some will share that info freely. If their own stream, they may be limited in the number of listeners or may be charged by what their peak stream listener number is for the month.
Thus, reason to keep the URL under wraps.
I am limited to 100 simultaneous listeners, so you see how the plot thickens for custom streaming audio. Passing around media URLs can get sticky--which is why they're concealed.
Good luck!

So if you are are streaming into SL, how many listeners does that count as? is it one listener for every parcel that uses the stream? or one for every AV currently listening to the stream?

Each avatar on the land parcel listening would count as a listener on the stream, as each avatar would connect to the shoutcast streaming server. Jamie Steaming Live Audio - Shoutcast / IceCast Hosting HQ (Bisque 245,155)
