I just got an HP dv9000 notebook with a 512M 7600 graphics processor. i am quite happy with it.
The nVidia driver is 86.02 (8.6.0.2). So far as I can tell from the nVidia site, this is pretty good, but I am wondering if anyone has upgraded to a later driver.
By the way, there is a little nVidia app that monitors the temperature of the gpu. I usually run at about 50C when *not* running SL, and go up to 65C when SL is crunching. The default threshold for automagically slowing the gpu down is 110C.

The 80 series NVidia drivers often give a better frame rate than the 90 series drivers do. On the other hand, the 90 series drivers improve the visual appearance of Second Life.
Going to a newer driver is easy; you just install it. Going back to an older driver is harder; the best approach is to COMPLETELY remove the newer one with Driver Cleaner Pro and then reinstall from scratch.
