Major Issue with installing SL - no longer able to get in

I downloaded the new version of SL today, and went to install it (overwriting my old version). Halfway through the installation it informed me that...

Error opening file for writing: C:/program files/Second Life/mozilla/components/xultil.dll

and will not continue. I tried a couple of times ,same thing. So then I tried to reinstall the older version of SL, so I could continue working in SL for now.

That does exactly the same thing! (it worked fine until today, sheesh)

I don't understand what is wrong, nor how to fix it, and can not get into Second Life at all now.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me, please???

Did you delete all of the SL-related files from your computer? Uninstall doesn't get them all and doing a manual search-and-destroy prior to reinstalling might help.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

maybe reboot your computer. it might be a little glitch that a restart fixes.

Uninstall and then goto your program files directory and delete the Second Life folder.

Reinstall and all should go well. My friend has had this happen twice.

-edit-

I think another time he mentioned he hit CTRL+ALT+DEL to bring up the Task Manager then under processes there was still a SecondLife.exe process running that he had to end.
