Someone is reading my friends IM's.
This is possibly from a item sent to her from him. She is not wearing this item. is there way without transaction history to look for this item. This is getting to become a large issue.

Thanks,

Assuming you really do mean IMs (not chat) just have her ditch the third-party viewer.

It is not possible to read someone's IMs - not even your own IM's - via a scripted object. Or is she using an RLV-enabled viewer? In that case, the viewer itself would send the contents of IMs via an RLV script in one object to someone else.

if no one was reading her IMs they would be pretty redundant.

You can block being able to receive IMs with RLV, you can block being able to send IMs with RLV but nothing will let you redirect IMs to either a script or to an avie.

If she is wearing some sort of collar, some of them utilize RLV-functionality to allow another to "spy" on your chat. I'm assuming that this simply remotely relays local chat (I've never tried it), and as Kitty indicates that there is no RLV mechanism to relay IMs. Even that requires a scripted object (like a collar) to be worn, and these typically require the wearer to be very explicit about granting "spy" permissions to someone (it's not automatically on).

I think your "friend" is either lying or has no idea what they are talking about. That or something completely different is going on, like there computer has been compromised and someone has access to the chat logs on their hard drive.

If she has reason to suspect it, then report it through an AR. (Help/Abuse Report.) Or maybe file a support ticket. I dunno.

If someone has hacked her account, the Lindens can do some digging and figure out if it's true or not. So send THEM the details.

If a person runs their own server, supposedly they can read IM there, on that sim. But this has been debated here in the past. Personally, I don't know.

Did you search for past threads on this topic? It's been discussed here fairly often in the past.

If you don't mind my asking, why do you say that someone is reading your friend's IMs?

As people have pointed out, it can't be done with either the conventional viewer or RLV, so we're left with the possibility, unless she's using a very strange third-party viewer, that somehow someone's gained access to the chatlogs on her pc or that your interpretation of the situation is mistaken.

Has this someone actually said to your friend, "I can read your IMs and, to prove it, here's some transcripts of them" or have events caused you to infer that someone must be reading them? If it's the latter, your and your friend's inference may be mistaken -- that sounds more likely, I have to say, than someone actually managing the feat (if, indeed, it's possible at all).

Update to the latest official viewer, and make sure the guy isn't parked outside using your wireless :P

I'm with the other folks. It's not possible, generally speaking, to read IMs not directed at you. You CAN, however, place an object that is scripted to listen for regular chat (NOT IMs) on someone's property and "spy" on them that way. If your friend has her own parcel and has received objects that she has then placed in the parcel, this could be her issue.

Transaction history will tell you nothing of this. Transaction History is merely a record of giving and receiving objects and L$; not what we do with objects once we receive them.

Your friend will need to search her parcel using the Land/Objects page; refresh on owned objects. If there are any listed by the suspect, highlight them here in the list, then remove them. They will be returned to the suspect. If your friend owns the object and has placed it, she will need to take a good look at the contents of each object that she received from the suspect, and delete it or take it back into Inventory.

"Friends" spouse is looking through the saved chat history when they're logged out and doesn't like what they see?
