Land Store Map..waste of time

I recently bought an island, I chose the location carefully from the land store grid, I chose a location a minimum of six grid spaces from any other island or reserved spaces. When my island was delivered I eagerly went looking for it on the SL map and when I located it 'would you believe it', there's two islands within two sim spaces from my island. Does this land store grid have even the remotest relevance to the SL map ? Can I ask to have my island relocated ?

Did you reserve all the space around you? No? Guess what, people can reserve open spaces too. Unless you watched it every day to make sure no one else reserved in the spaces near you, I would say that you are just out of luck, my friend, because they all probably thought the same thing. My only suggestion is that you reserve a bigger block of space next time.

Yes, you can request your island to be moved but they'll charge you $100. Call the concierge.

Yep I agree with all you say, however the two islands concerned were not on the land store map when I ordered my island..and moreover 'are still not on the land store map' as I type..but they sure ARE there in SL.

Yes I contacted concierge and they told me to put in a ticket requesting a move stating my reasons..whether I get hit with a moving charge remains to be seen.

If you purchase a 2nd island, you can move your 1st island to another location on the map at no charge.

The original idea was to expand (though not immediately) which is the reason I was so careful about allowing space between my island and neighbouring islands in the first place - nothing to do with privacy, I have no objection to neighbours. It is just frustrating to realise that after all the care taken in selecting the perfect location the land sale grid really isn't an accurate copy of the SL map. When you consider how much an island costs then the method used to locate and establish an island ought to be without flaw.

I'm a little (actually a lot) reluctant to shell out on another island just to get the first right - even though I intend to in the future, not to mention the immediate increase in tier fees.

I also now find myself bidding against someone to reserve an adjascent grid space, which is crazy when I originally looked at the land sale grid and there was a huge ocean-full of grid spaces out there to choose from.

The joys of land ownership....:(

I'm sorry that someone else had the audacity to order an island near you AFTER you had ordered yours. I guess they were not made aware of your intentions.

When it comes time for you to be ready to expand, you could always:
1. expand in the other direction from your neighbors
2. sell that island and order a group of them at one time

As I understand it, any time you buy a new island, you can request that your old island(s) be moved to be adjacent to the new one. Really, this is a non-issue.

Had you read the other posts before commenting you would realise the 'someone else' who had the 'audacity' to order an island near me didn't do it 'AFTER' I had ordered mine, they did it BEFORE I ordered mine, but it failed to show up on the Land Sale map..and still doesn't..according to the Land Sale map I was and still am miles from the nearest neighbouring island..but I'm not according to the SL map.

Perhaps LL has their hands full dealing with the grid attack that happened over this past weekend and the servers used for islands have been a low priority...or the resources need to run them properly have been strained...and thats why th eother island is not showing yet.

If you truly had your heart set on getting a gaggle of sims next to each other, you should have done it.

Maybe the other guy that DID purchase an island before you had the same plans for future expansion and you ruined his plans?

Yep your absolutely right..I came along saw a huge empty ocean with no islands nearby, bought a space, and hey presto I and he have a neighbour..must be MY fault. Couldn't possibly be LL's fault after all, all they did was NOT update the Land Sale Map - and still havn't, my island's there but NOT the others. Stupid of me not to realise there was an island there when the Land Sale Map showed empty ocean..yeah my fault totally.

You are absolutely right, the land store map is months out of date.

I've had this SAME problem, in fact, the only way to know if there is something there FOR REAL is to click on all the squares around where you thing you might want to go and have it tell you if that space is available or not. I't kind of like playing Mine Sweeper.

The data you get when yuo click the map (Space is free or not) is current as that is looked up real-time or something, but for some reason the F'ing map is always months out of date. Last time I looked it was > 8 months wrong around my collection of sims.

I personally see it sort of like Civilisation II.

I've got 2 cities and the settlers have vastly improved the land, and many have become wealthy and happy with their shops.

I've put in railroads, made treaties with some and warred with others.

The people are constantly climbing the technology tree: building, textures, scripting, sculpties...

...and I'm looking at making a Wonder of the World in the near future.

A Wonder, Des? Given Caledon, what could that be? A steam powered Colossus of Rhodes, maybe? The Great Pyramid of Gingerbread? Knee length skirts??

(I'm just teasing. I visited a Caledonian site for the first time a few days ago and I'm anxious to go back and explore further.)

...a sim-sized flying mountain, broken aloft from its mountain range due to an overabundance of Cavorite... glittering caverns of exotic minerals and cave-dwelling fauna throughout...

Does it sound like I've been thinking about this too long?
