I think their position on camping has always been known - they hate it. As far as actually going after it, this is probably not the first time it's been done. It's in the round tuit file. Hey, it does look like it. But given that overuse of camping chairs in a mainland does interfere with one's right to use one's land, if you can't get into the land to use it.
So, ARing these things work, huh?

I wonder if the reports on the police blotter are really recent or from 6 months ago. LOL

That may be a slightly special case, if it's where I think it is. Something like 85-90% of the sim is a very nice medieval style RP environment, with one corner taken up with with a casino/club that extends into the next sim. (or at least that's how it was at the weekend, haven't been there since).
The bulk of the sim has very little of the usual lag suspects, and from what I've seen is rarely massively busy. In that case it would probably have been relatively easy to identify any problems caused by the casino/club. Might be more difficult in the normal chaos of the mainland to identify where problems were coming from.
Nice to think they might be starting to look at it though.

Whilst looking at land the other day, I found a casino that was on the corner of 4 regions, and had 30 camping chairs in each quarter, effectively ruining 4 regions as it was mostly full. I wish I'd reported it now.
The sooner this camping thing gets stopped the better - and the sad thing is all that Linden Lab need to do is to remove the "popular places" and most places' reason for having camping is gone.
Twenty properties "lose out". Tens of thousands of active players win. The pros far outweigh the cons.

Do people actually visit the "popular places"? I see that as an indication to avoid them personally

From: Gillian Vuckovic Do people actually visit the "popular places"? I see that as an indication to avoid them personally I used to do that when I was a newbie....for lack of knowing any better. Now I hate even going to any malls for fear of slow rezzing and lag. With the influx of new people over the past few months, it doesn't surprise me that the popular places are....well....popular.

Although, why I bother, I do not know. It's too laggy to say anything, much less rezz. Camping is fine, on private islands or carefully controlled and actually decorative on the mainland. If I see rows of mindless zombies sitting there doing nothing, I don't return. I will however watch them wash windows for hours on end. Zombies are good for that, once you break them of the whole 'bbbbrrrrrraaaaaiinnnnsss,' issue.

From: Gillian Vuckovic Do people actually visit the "popular places"? I see that as an indication to avoid them personally As do I, anywhere that I go that I see a huge blob of green on the map when I land I will look at, and if it's camping chairs or similar, I'll go straight back out again. I'm quite sure that my lack of presence isn't really harming the clubs, malls or casinos that have camping chairs - but it's the best way I can protest my dissatisfaction. Broccoli

I've never paid much attention to camping posts, I understand what camping chairs are.........you sit, you get paid.....what they are for..
People use them to bring more traffic to thier land ...but what I am not clear on is this....what does having high traffic get you? I mean does it make you show up in the search first?? Or popular places? What benifits come from camping chairs and high traffic......... Thanks

Or popular places? What benifits come from camping chairs and high traffic......... People coming into SL for the first time believe that "popular places" really are the best places to be seen and hang out in SL, the best hosts, the best builds, the best entertainment etc. Those of us who have been here a while know that most of them are badly designed, laggy as crap, zombie filled wastes of bandwidth that, given 10 minutes with Linden "God" powers, would auto return every prim on the plot. Unfortunately, those that want to be "the best" do so by cheating and gaming the traffic numbers, bribing visitors in an effect to make up for what they *don't* offer - rather than offering a quality experience to the average SL resident. My xperience with camping chairs is from nearly a year and half ago but I doubt it has changed much. When Camping was a new thing I bought a camping chair and put up a set of them in our then gaming area. They were only turned on when games were running as a thank you to the players and to try and encourage donations to the pot. It worked for about 2 days. Then pot donations plummetted totaly and the chairs also did absolutely nothing for sales. People did not say hey these are nice people lets look in the shops while we are here. They just took the money and ran. Not long after we bought a private island and were packing up to move. I happened to have the sim stats open while packing and got a real eye popper at how much of the lag was caused solely by those stupid chairs (unoccupied no less). Needless to say we have never had camp chairs again. /me is very anal about lag reduction.

There are some popular places that are worth going to that don't have any camping and are just fun places to go. For example, Mournier's nude beach, and Elements. Too bad they're in the same company as camper farms.

Too bad they're in the same company as camper farms. Elements has quite a good-sized camper farm. Just go to the mall and look for the teleport. On the other hand, their space is so big they must own at least the whole sim, so it's not really anybody else's problem, is it?
