I picked the club guy as my n00b avatar, but I can't change my hair. I found a thread that mentioned when you buy hair you also get a bald cap that covers you current hair. I've also read that hair is an attachment that can be removed. Is that true?
So, how do I remove my n00b hair. As it is now I've made a hair style so big it literally hides my n00b hair, but it's quit large and embarrassing.

Noob hair is not prim hair (I believe it's called mesh hair) therefore you need to cover it with a bald head first. You can get a baldy by going to a hair shop and getting a demo hairstyle or purchasing hair you like (I would suggest Naughty Island for men's hair by the way). Then you "wear" the bald - and you should no longer have noob hair. After you have done that, attach your new hair, and you're good to go And may I just say, ARRRRRGGGGHHHHHH. What the heck happened to the WSIWYG INTERFACE ON THESE FORUMS>?????

Use the appearance editor to make yourself bald. Right click on yourself and choose Appearance.

I bet a dollar that you have prim hair, and you'll need to detach it. Right-click on yourself, Take Off, Detach, Skull, or something along those lines.... Or searching in your inventory for "worn" might bring it up, and then you can right-click on the item I started with club guy too, and it took me forever to figure out that I couldn't edit my hair because it's a toupee. I think he might be the only one of the default avs that has prim hair.

There are two types of hair - Prim hair and avatar hair.
Most new avatars start with Avatar hair. It's actually just a deformation of the avatar mesh itself, which is why you can't 'take it off'. But when you save a hairstyle in Appearance, you save the settings that make that hair. That is what a "bald wig" is in SL - a saved set of appearance settings that give you no visible hair.
Prim hair usually consists of either a bald wig or a base color wig, together with a prim piece that is most often attached to the skull. You can readily identify prim hair by clicking on it and trying to select it. If the hair highlights, it's prim hair, and it's attached somewhere.
If you zeroed out the sliders on your avatar, and still see hair, you may be wearing a short prim hairstyle. Some of the new starter avatars may have prim hair that comes with them.
To replace most types of hair, just put on the required parts for the new hair. Since most prim hair gets attached to the skull attachment point, one set will replace the previous one. If you put on a non-prim hairstyle over a prim set, click the part of the hair that doesn't look like it belongs, and select 'detach' to remove the prim hair.
An exception to all of the above is hair on most furry avatars. There, the "head" for the furry is often a prim mask that attaches to the skull. If that is the case, and if you try to put on prim hair while wearing a furry avatar, the prim hair might replace all or part of your furry head. If that happens, put your head back on, and try attaching the new prim hair to your ear, instead. It will take a little adjusting, but if you had a whole-head furry form on your head, then the head is likely too large for unmodified Human hair, and you'll need to adjust the hair anyway to make it fit.

Whatever it was, right click and detach worked. Now I'm bald! Thanks

Club girl too. I just noticed this last night; her hat and hair are a single object.

From: Gillian Waldman What the heck is "club guy" - is this new? It was a new feature added to the SL website a little while ago. When you create a new account now you can pick your starting avatar from a bunch of presets. So there's basically a bunch of default avatars instead of just one male and one female as we used to get. Try creating a new av and you can see thumbnails of them. It's on the second page of the avatar creation process.
