No Copy when sold as Original?

I made something for a friend on her land and then set it for sale for 0 L$ with Modify and Copy checked. The sales method was Original, so my friend became owner and the object stayed rezzed on her land.

Only strange thing is that, although Copy was checked, my friend couldn't copy the item. She could only take it back in inventory, and when she rezzed again it disappeared out of her inventory, which means No Copy.

Later I gave her the item through the profile screen. Same item, same settings and perms, but now she could copy it. How come?

As its the orginal object which has been set for sale and you chose to sell a copy of that original, it would therefore default to a no copy item, unless it is 'sold' and the new owner gets a copy of it. To make the orginal copiable, deslect 'for sale' and then you can.

AWM, I'm not sure I understand. I made the item and sold it as Original, so I didn't sell a copy of it. I also never had the item in my own inventory. Therefore, by selling it for 0 L$ to my friend with the setting Original, the item became hers. But, the checked (Modify and) Copy didn't seem to work. Okay, to resume what I exactly did:

- Made the item on the land of my friend.
- Set it for sale for 0 L$ as an Original with the checkboxes Modify and Copy checked. Resell/Give Away was unchecked.
- Friend bought the item.
- Item remained on her land, but now she is the owner.
- Friend doesn't have copy-permissions.

Hi Paulo, I'm slightly confused here. For the above to have been possible you must only have sold her a copy for you to retain the original. Are you sure you didn't overlook the next owners permissions?

Did you perhaps set the group to share on the object, or maybe deeded it to that group?

I'm guessing he recreated the object for the second give.

Unfortunately stuff happens in SL that doesn't always go as planned. My sincere recommendation to any builder/creator of any object is to always 'take copy' first and test that you successfully have a complete copy of the building/creation by test rezzing the copy out of inventory prior to any form of selling the object or even doing a completely 'take'. I have lost items doing the latter and will never ever take before taking copy.

Further, if it is an item of significance, such as one to be set for sale to the public, I would test the next owner perm settings with either a most trusted friend, or preferably your own alt. It will always be easiest for you to see for yourself if your permission settings are correct after to transfer your alt. This is especially important for me to test when working with packaged homes where I need to be certain every embedded texture (if I embed them and don'tuse UUID numbers), every embedded script, every linkset, etc has the correct perms. After the first few embarrassing sales of homes that should have been mod/copy having some portion be either no mod or no copy or a combination of both, I will never set one for sale that has not been double checked by an alt and found to be correct.

You are right Charlene. I did recreate the object to test the alternative way (through inventory) but made sure it was identical to the first one. I don't think it was a software glitch, maybe it was never built in or work in the way that I thought.

I hear the recommendations and will not make the same mistake again. But I 'd like to hear from others if I may have overlooked something before I make an entry in Jira for this.

It was either a bug, or you had something else in the object (a texture or script) that was no copy. I've made many one-off items for friends, set them for sell as original at L$0 with full permissions, and never took a copy for myself (something I should learn to do). The friends are always able to copy it. I did this just two nights ago while using the Voice First Look - didn't see the problem you had.
