My closest friend in SL has sold her land and now needs a place to call "home". Before she bought her land about 4 months ago she and I "roomed" together on my land and she was able to set her home to my land. Between that time and now I redid my group and basically started over by booting everyone and reinviting them back.......all as members only (no officers and only me as an owner). I had done something back then that allowed her to set home but I can't remember what it was. I've made her an "owner" but she still cannot set home. I don't want to deed the land to group if I can avoid it (that is why I redid the group a while back to get rid of the deeded land after my friend moved out). Does anyone know how to do this without deeding the land? Or can it be done? I trust my friend completely but there are group members that I barely know that I'm not sure I want sharing my land if I deed it. Thanks for any help.

there's an option within roles on the group.
However, the simplest solution even if your friend isn't in a group is to get you friend online and on the parcel.
Set the option in the parcel settings so that anyone can create Home on you land (maybe take a quick look to ensure that there aren't any others around).
Get your friend to Set Home
Remove the option in the parcel settings - this doesn't affect anyone who already has Home set to your land (or at least it didn't use to), it merely prevent new people from setting it as home

Thanks Matthew..............I'm going to try that when I get on later. If it don't work then I'll do as I did before when I got rid of the deeded group land. Boot everyone except my friend, deed it to group, get her to set home, then ask her to resign, and buy the land from me then sell it back...........reinvite everyone back to the group. What a pain in the butt,

"Set home to here" doesn't work for my skybox rental tenants either.... even though they are in my tenant group which has the setting which should allow that. Is this a bug or is it supposed to not work this way?

I fear you will find that "Set Home to Here" only functions now when the land is actually deeded to the land group.
A simple solution is to set up a "Residents" role in your group, and only allow those you wish to have "living' there in that role. I did this with my own land group, and it has worked quite well.
Also, strip the "everyone" role of almost all the permissions. For most groups, the general members need very few actual permissions. The defaults are pretty prmissive/

What about separating out a 16m2 spot and deeding that to group?

and leasing it out for a porn ad? LOL Actually, I'm just looking for an easy way to help a friend. All she does is like me. A place to land on log in, change clothes in relative privacy, and a place to un pack boxes or maybe build something. No complicated divvying up of the parcel. It's only 512 meters anyway.

Matthew's suggestion might work on the Mainland. It will not work on any Private Island.
You could deed the land to the group, let your friend set home, and then buy it back from the group. The home point will remain for her. Just make sure you have the right to set group land for sale, and make sure you're the only one in the group with the "Pay Liabilities" permission, or else when you buy it back, the price you pay gets split to those in the group with the "Pay Liabilities" permission.
Another simple work-around is for her to simply set a landmark on your land and name it something like "! My Home". If she sets her client for her to log in at the point she left SL from at last logout, and if she logs out after doing a TP to your place, it's almost the same as a normal home point.

Sorry, my mistake the Allow to Set As Home is unfortunately a Group function not a Parcel function. I was getting confused with the Allow to Set Landmark which is a parcel function

"Set home" function for groups has been borked for a long time and I know many, many people would love to have it restored.
