After the update that was today (2007-02-21) old scripts are still working, but as soon as trying to recompile them (without changing anything, say add a space and delete a space) I am getting these less than informative errors:
Function Args: si Local List: (null) Function Args: s
What does all this mean? any clues/ideas/revelations are very much appreciated.

It's possible that this question would have been better placed in the Scripting Tips forum.
Do you get the same result for every old script you try or just some?
If you move the script to a new object and recompile does that change the result?
If you paste the text into a new script and complile that do you get the same error?
If you haven't filed a bug report you might want do that, and check the known issues to see if it has been reported, and check the jira thing also.
I'm not aware of what, if any, backend changes they might have made in the downtime today.
