Hello I just downloaded the game and went to a shop that gave away a bunch of free stuff like clothes and animations and such but...Most of it is in Objects I've searched the knowledge base and many other places and can't find a way to get the items out of the objects and into my inventory any help would be appreciated! thanks.

Search unpacking!

You need to go to a place where you are allowed to rez prims for a few minutes. Drag the box onto the ground, right click and choose open. (If open isn't there, edit works just as well.)

Highlight all the items and drag them over into your inventory.

Hi and welcome.
The difficult bit these days is find somewhere with permissions to drag an object onto the ground. Once you have that, and some can be rather entertaining when the rez, if they are a package, right-click on it. From the pie pick 'open' and a text box should open revealing its contents. You will have two buttons, 'Copy to Inventory' and 'Copy and Wear now'. I always copy to inventory.
Lastly, it's polite to the landowner to 'take' back the package despite it usually appearing a second time in inventory. Simply delete one from there.

Just a word of advice, keep your inventory organized. There is alot of "stuff" in some of those free boxes, it can get out of control pretty quickly. Take a bit of time periodicaly, daily if necessary, to sort through the new items and put them into folders. It makes it much easier to find what your looking for later on.

I wish someone had recommend this to me on Day One! I've spent hours sorting stuff out and am pretty sure I still have boxes I've not opened yet!

I'm right there with you Bilbo. My objects folder is a disgrace mostly filled with freebies that I never use but might some day so i hang onto it

. I have also spent hours sorting the things that I do use into seperate folders, clothing, boats, landscaping etc and now am pretty good at finding what I'm looking for. These days as soon as I buy or build something new, or very shortly after, I put it into the appopriate folder.
