My Clothing Was Re-Written

I purchased a shirt (it's a jacket layer type) - Relax Malibu button. It's a plain blue button shirt with the appearance of a white t-shirt at the neck line. It's a no modify, no transfer. I wore it yesterday and again today. After the grid re-opened, I logged in and everything was fine. I was interested in learning about scripts so I thought I teleported to the school location but made a mistake and ended up in another location. My avatar was standing there as I was doing some searching on the map. When I closed the map, my shirt now had taken on the image of my sl screen (including the HUD menu). I even have what appears to be gloves. Interestingly, the lower half of the jacket (by the hops) still looks the same. I did a "WORN" search in inventory and there is nothing else that would interfere. I also went into appearance and it doesn't even display this modified shirt. It still looks like the original.

I can wear other shirts of the same type and they are fine. I have logged out and back in but this shirt now has taken on the image of the location and my HUD menu.

Any ideas?

You need to rebake.
You'll be fine

Ctri-Alt-D to reveal the "Clent" and "Server" menu options
Client Menu... Character... Rebake Textures

PLEASE REPORT THIS BUG. It is a security issue. If you keep your IM window open, past IM's appear printed on your body... you could end up disclosing a private conversation to the world.

Thank you all! That did the trick. I will report it.

Are you sure about that? If it's fixed by "rebake" under the Client menu, doesn't that mean it is a client issue? And therefore not viewable by others?

It's one thing for the client to mix up textures for your own viewing, but it's another thing entirely to upload your screen live and broadcast it to everyone within viewing distance of you. I think that would actually require replacing the texture in the asset database... in which case rebaking wouldn't actually fix anything.

At least I'm assuming that's how it works. I'm really hoping that the rest of the world isn't seeing my clothes all blurry just because my graphics card stinks! ;)

Yes and no. The client takes all of the [pieces of your avatar's appearance and bakes them in to a composite view, it then publishes that baked appearance back to the grid for others to see. So if the client does not bake the appearance correctly others will see the incorrect view also.

I am certain it is viewable by others. There was an incident where I was having an IM with one person, and another friend standing in the room with me saw that persons name printed on my clothes. She then asked how I knew that person. It wasn't a big deal.. but it could have been a HUGE problem if I was the more secretive type.

All of the above makes sense to me when we see it on our screen. But what does it mean when we look fine on our screen and Ruthed on someone else's?

Or have bald patches when our hair looks fine to us? My partner usually tells me to rebake but once a friend of mine told me I was Ruthed when I looked fine to me.

What is going on then and how can I tell? I guess the wisest course would be to rebake after every TP but who remembers!

I Clear Cache about 3 times a DAY if I'm on for over 4 hours...otherwise I have the same kind of problems as you described above.

hehe sometimes peopel are not aware they are wearing "missing image" clothing and you have to tell them to rebake so it doesn't appear to only be client side if everyone else can see it as well.

also i think the blurry clothing thing is internet speed connection (i could be wrong but people with slow connections seem to have more trouble with high detail clothing not rezzing or getting mangled) .

Holy cow! I had totally managed to convince myself that my clothes texture problems were not visible to others.

Now I'm REALLY glad I didn't leave my house during my lower-body issues back in February. After trying on hundreds of freebie outfits, my pants and legs textures got mixed up. Whenever I had no pants or underwear on, it looked like I was wearing my standard jeans in a skin-tight version. But if I put on my standard jeans, I looked naked and had pants-shaped legs.

Unfortunately, being a casual user, I didn't know anyone well enough to say "Hey Joe, can you come over and tell me if I have pants on?"

hehe a couple of days ago I had to tell someone to rebake because all their clothing was "missing image" so if you see no pants on yourself rebake or log quick :)
