I was wondering how starting a club works. I don't understand the buying land thing. I see a place to buy land in my account and then I see places to buy in game. I don't really want to open one up just wondering how it works.

You buy land in game of mainland sims.
--- For making a club... 1. You need a concept or theme. 2. You need lots of money. I've spent over $1400(us) over the last year on my small club. It's best to use the "Add credit" link to transfer money to your account and then do a "Limit buy" of lindens. 3. You need to Buy or rent land. To buy land you have to upgrade to premium and set how much tier you are willing to pay. Renting allows you to stay a basic account, but you will still need the same amount of $$$. 4. ??? I don't know and most clubs never even brake even. Adding vendor spots helps, but they barely pay for the extra land/prims they take. 5. Make money? ---------- My suggestions is to start small on the mainland. Find a parcel near the sim border, in a quiet sim. The idea is that you want to spread the club over several sims, but you don't want any parts of the club to be within the 10m overlap range where you are using both sims. Also expect to pay a lot for the land you need. (Watch out for 16sq ransom plots) And any land you sell will sell for a lot less. |

Feel free to stop by my one stop club shop at Yeolmae 10,20,80 (DJ gear, dancefloors, lighting, broadcasting, etc)
If I'm around I'd be happy to bounce some ideas. _____________________

Clubs, purely and simply, are a money pit. That's why so many fail these days. Used to be that you would get a dwell bonus to offset the cost of operations; but LL took that away.
So, in order to make a profit you can a.) completely commercialize it with vendors, b.) sell off freebies to newbies to keep things running , or c.) find a sponsor. |

Its true, its very hard to make a club turn a profit. We (VooDoo DESIGNS) create and sell prefab nightclubs and this is why all our designs have a vendor area of some sort. Its about the only good way these days to make some sort of money within the club. Unless your club has dancers and takes a cut from the tips. Casinos was the way to go but we all know where that is heading.
Hope that helps. _____________________

Start with as much tier as you can afford comfortably. Your biggest expense should be your shoutcast stream so you can have DJs in your club. Also learn DJing (Doubledown knows the ropes). Save some prims for your vendors and develop staff salaries based on your retail income. Then party. Make members and cherish your regulars. See where it goes.

5) Deal with Knucklehead employees that have no professionalism
6) deal with employees that want to date you cuz banging the boss is fun 7) give people money to come to your club regularly (did I mention I hate events) |

Possible suggestion:
Since there are already so many clubs in SL, why not find one synonymous with your vision or that exemplifies what you visualize for a club and offer to help out. The result would be a stronger club. Just my thoughts... PS: I tried a club (Blues) a couple weeks back, and then went to Firefly, and last night a Salsa club... and I finally "GET" what clubs are all about. Very fun -- even for homebody, socially inept people like me!! _____________________

oh man dont build yet another empty club. i get so depressed everying i see some 8000m club with 40 camp chairs and 40 camp poles EMPTY and wasting land!
if you want to make money there are far better ways to do it. if you want to socialise any place is better than a club full of campers. |

Hiya! My favorite kinds of clubs are the ones in a home-type setting. A nice prefab mansion makes a much more interesting club than just a big ol' empty cube in my mind. Plus it really helps create a more family feel to help maintain regulars.
I sell cool stuff for clubs and homes at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Lutra/227/34/43 including the world famous percentage-splitting Tip Jars, like the ones VooDoo Bamboo mentioned earlier in the thread. I also have camping stuff like Dancepads that can be set to Group Only so you can choose who's allowed to use them. |

Find a niche and think small.
Are you interested in orange oriental carpets? Then build a club dedicated to the best orange oriental carpets money can buy! Catering a specific niche is easier (especially if you don't have a competitor), less expensive and offers more opportunities given you will become a leader in your niche. Nina and Alicia is absolutely right. There is nothing more depressing than a massive club full of... emptiness. Start small and make it cosy. Make it fun and offer freebies. Give it a good name and build the brand. Once you have a good product market it as much as you can. |

What keeps me coming BACK to clubs, its the DJ's
I've been to a ton of them, but only 1 do i go back to time and again becasuse they have such awesome music, and friendly people.... but people aside they can be the most friendly on the planet if the music sucks im outta there..... The club i love is named after a fish that eats people, starts with the letter p ![]() it is the best PsyGoaTrance club ive seen so far on a side note, most clubs don't run events 24/7/365 so there will ALLWAYS be times its empty when your not having a event.....empty clubs exist in the realworld on on mondaymornings and in SL at one time or another everyclub will have a 'empty' time its not depressing, its just reality _____________________
