I have several new accounts I have created recently. They are all getting invitations to join groups I am not interested in.
My original free account is not getting these invitations. How are they getting my name, and how can I stop this spam?

The simplest method is to be in the same area as you, on how they got your name. The next simplest is to look in the search for a combination of letters and to just drop the notecard spam on everyone on that list.
As to how to avoid it? I don't think even busy mode protects you from notecards or invites into groups.

Ah, that explains it. All the new accounts had the same last name. So they were hit at the same time!!

Don't group invites tell you who offered it? Just mute that person. You can proactively mute that same person with your other alts as well. I think spamming me with a group invite is the surest way to make me NOT join the group.

I haven't signed in today, but I noticed I had a group invite in my offline IM emails. Whoever it was can be certain I won't be joining their group (unless I'm mistaken and it is someone I know about, but forgot). I don't mind invites to groups relating to products I've bought, or things I've been associated with - I accept or decline those as appropriate, no hard feelings - but if ya just picked my name from a hat you're not the sort of group I want filling one of my 25!

I get a Lot of spam group Invites as well, Part of the almost Unbearable wonderfulness of being Me i suppose. I never accept Unsolicited group memberships, and Currently i'm only a member of perhaps eight groups, Three of which I am a Founder. When i receive an Unsolicited one, i simply decline it, and if the person sending it contacts me, I politely Refuse Unless, and Until i know more about them, and thier group.
Angel.

I keep being spammed by some bunch who claim to be at the BBC, who want people to be filmed meeting the RL "drivers" of their SL "companions". Thing is, while they spam away, they don't talk in-world, and I am damned if I am going to mail or call someone based on data in an unsolicited message in SL!

If you didn't express an interest in the group or ask to be invited, it's covered by the community standards, so leave the invite up, abuse report the inviter for spam with the screenshot and let the group owner know.

If it's friends who keep adding you, it's because when they did their group "add new member" and searched for a name, they closed the name window without highlighting the person they actually found. That makes the picker choose the top name in your friend's calling cards folder by default. I get that a lot, and I've joined some fun groups temporarily
