Making rivers

I've bought land in Francois where I'm currently the only private landowner, all the rest being owned by the property company that's selling it. It's hill country and runs down to a channel which, through the next sim, is a river which ends at my border. Clearly the channel which runs through my land is intended as a continuation of the river and I assumed I was going to have to make it that way with textured prims.

It gets a bit complicated here but initially I looked at that very parcel which borders mine and is in the next sim but was too slow and lost it. Thing is, at that time the water petered out half-way across the parcel but now continues right up to my border but the additional water is not prim based. Where has it come from? Is it possible to get water applied by LL on a mainland parcel?

Obviously I would like to save the prims on my own land if I can but also I can't see an appropriate texture in my library so it's gonna be hard work making a good match for a continuous body of water that way anyway.

Anyone know anything about this?

This sounds like the land has been lowered below the water level (20M) to create the river with Linden Water. If your land is higher than +/-23, you may not be able to lower it enough to get the use of the Linden Water.

If it's not Linden Water, it *has* to be prim water (or temp-on-rez prim water). Ask the person who owns the other plot where their water comes from (if you find you can't lower your land below 20M) and see if you can purchase the texture/rezzer there.

it is the end of the ll ocean with a cannel going inland and then rising out into a mountain
only thing u can do is lower the land as much as u can, ll water is impossible to replicate

yikes, L$12 p/sqm

Impossible perhaps.. possible alternatives

1.) Use a free PC video screen grabber like CamStudio, and create a simple but effective 16 (or more) frame sl water animation.

2.) Use PSP animation shop underwater effect to create a 16 frame (or more)... anim from a static pic of sl water

3.) build a dam... :)

4.) sell up. buy somewhere else without the problem...

5.) Quit totally, get a real life.

Ah - lower the land to reveal the water - obvious when you know how. Can't help thinking I should have been able to work that one (and many others) out for myself .

Yep, pricey but nice place (for now?) & just about able to afford it without spending too much USD.

Bad idea - requires real work.

TYVM - I'm unfailingly impressed by your willingness & ability to help the hard of understanding. Expect to see many more questions along the lines of 'how do I sit down / stand up / boil an egg / breathe etc."

Breathe etc.

etc. Abbr. "And other unspecified things of the same class; and so forth."

requires real work ,not least because it has no beginning or end until specified.

Example:
To breathe one must first be created, leads to the question "how is one created?".

Of course, one could just be trying to breathe etc, itself unquantified, and probably even harder work....:)

hee.
Creating rivers - both prim and LL water - and waterfalls is a good way to learn quite a few SL skills, but it's remarkably like real work. Or you can hire someone like me (shameless commercial plug) to build one for you. But that costs a lot more and isn't nearly as much fun as learning terraforming, shaping and texturing prims (yay sculpies), planting trees and building bridges, and figuring out how to use texture, sound, movement and animation scripts, though the process might cause decreased interest in RL.
