I am working on a Second Life event during an Expo which *requires* to create "guest avatars", that is, avatars that are NOT associated toa specific person, but to my company, and that can be used to allow people who is not interested to have his/her own avatar to participate to events in SL. But how? It is not even possible to create more than one avatar from the same machine.... Any hint appreciated. It's URGENT!

Unless something changed, you should be able to create as many unverified accounts as you like from any PC.

At the login screen, hit "Create Account" instead. That should be enough.

Admittedly it's a while so I may be wrong.

Are you referring to situations where RL corporations have avatars representing / associated to their comapanies by last names?
(IBM, Reuters, Nissan, etc, etc...)

If I recall correctly, those accounts are all custom made by LL - which means that particular company is paying for each account. The customized last names are part of the package deal...but I am equally certain the obligatory purchase of a corporate island is somewhere in there too.

It would certainly be cheaper to follow Broccoli's suggestion, and then just have them join your group once in-world.

I get the distinct impression though that LL are eliminating unverifieds. They are on their way to implementing a new verification in addition?

Eadoin, avatars are directly connected to an identity, that is, a name, an email address and optionally for now, a credit card. The only other mechanism for an inworld entity might be a 'bot' However, I don't know anything for sure about these with respect to in-world immersibility.

Linden Lab does have a way that allows large companies to purchase sa block of accounts with a custom surname. I think you have to buy at least 20 accounts at once to do this, and the price I saw last was out of reach of most normal people. Fine for some corp like IBM, but nowhere near affordable for a special-purpose set of accounts for a single event.

Contact Linden Lab directly. They can get you the info on the bulk account purchases.
