I've had a lot of trouble lately with my friend list not being accurate in showing online status. Is there any way to refresh it short of relogging?

Not that I know of. Whenever this happens to me, I have to relog.

The wonky friends list has been an undocumented feature (please, let's not call it a bug ;p) of SL, since at least last summer, perhaps longer.
Relogging may or may not help. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.
