Could somebody possibly tell me please. When I upload an item of clothing it simply uploads as a texture which I then have to go "create new item of clothing" etc. My question is how do I assign a real function to this texture so all I need to do is click "wear" the item and it automatically puts it in the right place, an undershirt for example.

I think , i know i'll be corrected if i'm wrong Once you have put your texture on the item of clothing you can save the clothing as a new item into your inventory under whatever name you want . All you need to do then is click Wear and your done.

After you upload your texture for you clothing item, click on you avatar and go into appearance. Click on the "undershirt" tab to get to that clothing item to make or modify. If you are wearing an undershirt, take it off........you will see a basic, white undershirt garment on your avi (if you are wearing a shirt, it might be best to take that off too so you can see your new undershirt without obstructions). You will see to squares that say (something like) "fabric" and "color"..........click on the "fabric". That bring up a texture picker window next to the appearance menus). Find your texture you uploaded (it will be listed in alphabetical order by default). Click on it and it will appear on your avi taking the place of the generic white one........click "select" and it closes the texture picker window. You can mod and adjust your new undershirt before "saving" and existing appearance. Now you need to name your new undershirt (SL just gives it the name "new undershirt" and you could wind up with 100's of "new [whatevers]" if you don't name them something you can find later. Just click on the "new undershirt" and choose "rename"..........and name it what you want. Now when you want to wear it, just click on the item that you made and choose "wear". Sounds complicated.........but it's not.

Thank you, so will this method of naming it work if I want to box the item up & sell it. Or will the buyer have to go through the same process of creating and naming.

Once you've made it it's what it is. You can allow modifications and the next person can modify it............but the basic item will still what it was when you made it. That is true if you don't sell it, sell it or give it away. Once it's a clothing item, it will always be a clothing item.
Oh, and the name you gave it will remain the same..........but the new owner can rename it for themselves if they want.

Textures can't be worn directly. They need to be applied to clothes or prim attachments, which have the "Wear" entry on right-click. Once you assigned a texture to a piece of clothing, the clothing and all copies of it that you sell will stay textured. Your customers don't need the texture file, only the clothing.

it stays textured unless you set modify rights on it and the next owner decides to overwrite your texture with one of their own(why anyone would do it is beyond me LOL) if that happens then they basically lose the texture you put on it.

As long as your graphics program can save as any of jpg, png, or tga, it will do the job. tga or png (with lapha layer) is recomended for clothing. Additionally, graphics for clothes should be 512x512 pixels, as the SL rebaking function used to merge the clothing layers into what you see will automatically reset the resolution to that anyway when it sends the merged clothing layers to the viewers.

maybe ? i use an existing piece of clothing with modify rights to attach my own texture to. This would give me the "wear" on right click option but would it give me full ownership & resale rights on the newly modified item ?

Anjel, Peggy actually explains how to turn your texture into an item of clothing in her post. It may seem complicated, but her instructions are very clear. Good luck!

From: Anjel Messmer maybe ? i use an existing piece of clothing with modify rights to attach my own texture to. This would give me the "wear" on right click option but would it give me full ownership & resale rights on the newly modified item ? It's easier to create your own item..... Short instructions: right click on yourself, choose appearance, click on undershirt, take off any your wearing, then choose create new undershirt, wait for white item to appear on yourself, click on fabric, choose the texture you uploaded and apply, choose save as option, name it and you've got your very own new shirt.

But I actually want to be able to sell it as a clothing item, not just as a texture.

The texture will always be a texture, what you need to do is follow Peggy's instructions and that creates a new item, the new item will be your clothing.

oh i think i know what you mean now Anjel....... if you save and rename the item of clothing and take it off, you will find it in your inventory as an item of clothing under the name you've given it )))

Thank you guys, you were right, i must concede. It looks like I was neglecting to save it and when I did a subsequent search I would always find just the texture. Now I have a real item of clothing. Thank you so much
