New update today Cherry so fingers crossed When you say permanently ruthed, are you not restoring once all local textures are loaded? Greyness usually signifies lag. How beefy is your machine spec? Update: Umm no client update today after all but grid maintenance still for a couple of hours.

Well ...
None of my shape, clothing, attachments are loaded ... this has been happening since last night.
Machine = pretty nifty, and I have a 2mb connection which is also generally fine ...
Full on newbie hair, grey and terrifying!!!
I have a friend who has not been able to see herself or change her AV since Feb. I also know the screw up that was happening re the things I was wearing when this started.
IE I look like a freak ...
Seriously, if this is not just the update I am up poo creek without a paddle and I will NOT be happy at all with LL ... I have a lot to lose ...

These problems sound ( I could be wrong here) like inventory problems which shouldn't be so much affected by hardware. Both yours and your friends problems sound rather difficult to track down. I know a couple of months back a lot of accounts were transferred to other servers with the attendant "You cannot login again until ..." messages. Some of these I seem to remember actually went towards solving other problems. Similarly, an update of around that time demanded the graphics engine (whose name escapes me at the moment) be at least version 2.0. This particular point got me out of a scrape. Others I'm sure will have better knowledge of the precise glitch. Have you cleared your cache? I never bothered till very recently. It really does help sometimes

Yes, it's been happening to me since last night too. Waited 10 mins to unruth and nothing. Tried relogging but still the same. I then tp'd to an empty mainland location and unruthed after about 2 or 3 mins.

OHHHH this better just be cos of the update ... it really had ... I pump hundreds of dollars a month into SL ... Cherry, I had the same thing happen to me yesterday. I cleared my cache and relogged in *repeatedly* and still - wrong shape, hair, no attachments, all grey. After standing around and waiting (each time), I'd eventually get a message that something "couldn't be found", "timed out", etc. Try teleporting. Seriously. Waiting did nothing, clearing the cache did nothing, but teleporting about 3 times eventually got me all back to normal. Very flipping weird. Good luck.

Problem solved. *waves at bilbo* Mandy C

From: Cherry Czervik ... grrrrrrrrr one thing after another! and *that* sums it all up rather well Cherry! Yesterday I was perturbed by a flurry of posts about passwords not working and having to reset them. When I got home, whoosh! straight in, both accounts. Talk about "Watch this space"! LOL And Mandy, Ruth doesn't hold a candle to you .. <waves back>

Second Life is horrible right before an update. Could just be pre-update woes.

Useful Tips for de-ruthing
06-06-2007 01:23
* When the client appears to be loading things (textures, builds, your shape, etc.) slowly or not at all, open the preferences screen, select the Network tab, then drag the bandwidth slider up and down erratically for a few seconds. As you do this, you should notice things loading at a faster rate around you. This is particularly useful after arriving in a sim (after you just logged in, or manually teleported there). Other things which may kick start your avatar's loading process: * Click Edit > Appearance, then hit all the tabs (shape, shirt, jacket, pants, etc.) at least once before hitting 'cancel' to dismiss the screen. (Don't click OK in case you accidentally tweaked something without realising.) * Right click yourself, select Groups, choose an inactive group from the list and click Activate. (This often speeds up the loading of prim attachments.) * Hold down Ctrl+Alt+D to enable the Debug menus, then click Client > Character > Rebake Textures. (This will force all the textures you're wearing to reload.) Never let it be said that Second Life doesn't have an eccentric client.

There's another one to try to de-ruth. Debug Menu > Character > Character Test > choose male or female. This will put you bad in your default newb AV (but not Ruth at least) and then you *should* be able to put back on your regular AV assuming all your inventory is intact.

(I really I have. I once lost something and suspected it to be under the ground. I didn't know yet you get make the ground transparant at that moment. The hole must still be there under the plates that are the grass around my house). Morwen.

From: Alyx Sands Whoah-would it help to do some RL voodoo chicken dance too? hehe. Maybe voodoo dolls of the entire dev team are in order. Then we can get Donald Trump doll to kick them up the collective butt and all these little bugs might go away. From: Alyx Sands But seriously, this is one of the most useful answers I've ever heard... Yes they are, but I picked them up from others over time. The network slider trick so obviously quickens the load time of everything around you that you can't help but WOW! the first few times you do it.
