Windlight Settings

Im trying to get my sky and water to look decent now with windlight when I take pictures. I want that nice glow about my AVs skin like I see in profile photos.

Whats are some good settings for windlight for me to try?

Amiz, there are endless options with windlight and your best bet is to play with the sliders and get familiar with the effects. One trick I use....no matter what 'setting'.....is to move the sun east/west position until the light on the avatar is the most flattering. The other thing to adjust is your ambiant sliders....the color bars there will greatly effect the light cast in the atmosphere...and hence, the avatars skin tone. If it looks too red....try adjusting green.....and so on.

Windlight is an amazing tool and ya really cannot screw it up.....if you don't like the adjustments you've made.....you simply go back to a default choice. If you DO like an adjustment.....then you can save it (you have to click new first, name it....and then click save )

If you ever want a crash course in-world...I'd be happy to help....windlight has had me spellbound since it came out in First Look.....and I've created probably 100 or so sky and water settings of my own.

I've jes gone with trial an error myself, trying different settings, different lighting positions, etc. I find that what might work well in one place might not in others. I tend to use the default and the costal afternoon more than any other setting, though.

I'll start with one of Torley's presets (Amaranthim linked to them) and give it a little tweaking as the situation calls for. There are a couple hundred, so there's almost always one that's at least pretty close to what I have in mind.

I just wish my Day Cycle presets would stay when I upgrade the client.

Windlight is so cool. I remember a lot of us griping about it when it first came out because it made everything look lame. I think that's becasue the default settings made everything look lame. Sorry to whomever created those, but they were just too dark and too intensely colored. Okay once in a while for a bizarre effect, but I like to see things, you know?

I think it would be fun to set up a user Windlight setting exchange web page for all of us to post our favorites. I know the Wiki or somehwere on this site has one, but I'd like an unofficial one. I may do that after my current project. It would be of the acutal XML files you could download and toss into your Second Life / app_settings / windlight / skies folder. I don't know if that's against the TOS - not sure why it would be.

It still does. It's unfinished. It REALLY needs Materials, oh and I still want Runitai's water back.

For the record ... I create the glows and skintone warming in Photoshop and upload back to the grid.

Part of that is a function of the skin... and part of that is a facelight, amiz. Great for photography, but not so great if it blinds everyone in daily travels.

But definitely try Caliah's settings, and play with them a bit.
