Noob needs help Body shapes/Faces/Skins.

Hi all,

I only joined three days ago and I think I'm already addicted, oops!
I'm a fast learner but there's something I just don't get. Maybe someone would be kind enough to enlighten me.

I bought a new body shape today, mainly because I loved the face. Now, excuse my ignorance but surely this face would come with it? I put on the shape, but no face, still my old one. I tried a different skin that came with it, it just changed skin tone and makeup but still the same old face.

Is it meant to change the face (the body shape) or am I stuck with the one I've got? Where am I going wrong?

if the shape is modifiable, you can change it yourself in appearance(right click your ava, choose appearance in the pie menu, then choose head or face i think).

if it is modifiable, i recommend saving a copy of the shape just in case.

some skins like GALA and SinSkins can change the look of your face, if thats what you wish.

Ok...firstly....I make shapes.......and once you put on a shape you should certainly see the difference in your avatar, regardless of the skin.......skin will alter the look a bit, depending on how the creater painted it in photoshop....but the face shape doesn't change.

So.....I'm kind of wondering, since you said the face shape didn't change....if possibly you were what we call 'ruthed'. Ruthed is the term used when your avatar doesn't load completely and gets stuck in the default shape....the face and body will look like that of a newbie female....whether your avatar is male or female, if you're ruthed.

So.....you might want to double check that your operating system and graphics card are compatible with running SL. These things, if not compatible, can cause all sorts of glitches in the performance. Your face should not have looked the same.... if you need help in-world you can IM me....I'm also a mentor and I'd be happy to walk you through some basics and help you get your avatar squared away.

Also log off and back on if you did not see any changes, if you liked the face contact the creator and have them look at it as well, I always make sure my shapes work right for the person buying, I an sure so do the other shape makers.

The shape of the face (nose length, cheekbones, eye slant, etc) all are a function of "shape," as are the length of your arms, amount of body fat, etc. It determines the frame of your avatar. The "skin" goes OVER the frame, just like clothing. It will have varying amounts of shading, makeup, body hair, etc, depending on the designer. It sounds like you want both the shape AND skin that were shown at the body shop. You can try tracking down the owner of the shop and asking what skin he/she used on that model.

I know but you're inworld a whole lot more than I am, and using it daily lol. I've been really lazy about getting myself a complete A/O - just way too complicated so I just use my Sexy Walk (which I adore) and turn on the Model walk when I'm in a place where I know I have a long time to walk around straight forward for a while.

Since Yosef seems to be spying on you and Aeble (!!!), I told her about it and she has it already. Ask her for the landmark where she bought it. It's fabulous! Gives you a real "model's walk" like they do on the runways If she left already, I'll go through my inventory next time I'm inworld and drop you the landmark. It's not a walk per se, it's an animation to be dropped into an A/O but you can also run it inworld, like you do the dances, etc.

Thanks Elora! I'll ask Aeb for it when I see her next as well. I still have to learn how to use an A/O that one can drop things into. I'll get there, slowly but surely.

Don't feel bad about that, like I just wrote I haven't done it either. I tried messing with the ZHAO once, got half way with it and gave up. I have color/texture changing shoes in 2 styles (one a sandal that has "toes" with polish changes that look fantastic) which have such a great A/O in them, with sit and stand poses that have served me very well for a long time now. They were pricey but well worth the cost since I didn't have to go through all that bother of the A/O.

If I don't wear those, I just use the Sexy Walk, which I'm quite happy with. Guys seem to like it too, I've gotten compliments so I'm sticking with that one lol. I think there are a few out there, but the one I have isn't too "hip slingy".
