Being a resident of SL inventory loss has become a fact of life. Missing item in database and unable to rez item is a very common lately. The thing is this is getting worse again not better at least my perspective. This is not backed with any scientific test but just with what I see and customers that I deal with.
I know what the Lindens are trying to do to fix the problem. Currently every inventory query goes through the server you are residing then goes to the asset database. The server also handles just about everything else you do IM's, physics, scripts, etc. If the server is busy the longer it waits in queue and could eventually timeout. (Why have a timeout?)
What I know is that they are trying to move the inventory query instead of going through the server you are at but directly to the asset database. Now this may fix alot of problems because timeouts can be confusing because if the asset server did receive the request, how does it handle it? Throw it away? Try to grant it?
I know this probably got way to technical but all this information I had scrounge and research but my biggest concern is what is the priority of the inventory fix? I mean if people were having problems with money transaction I bet it would fixed much quicker. (Funny we really don't see problems with money transactions much, probably a lot smaller than the stuff that goes with the asset server.) Since this population explosion of SL the Lindens have not been so forthright to disclose what they are doing or their priorities. Alot of us just assume the worse when something bad happens. If they explain what is the plan and possible problems ahead it would be met with understanding instead of blind speculation.

They are going to jump on this issue right after they get done approving the designs for the new First Bling coffee mugs and mousepads.

It would be nice if they *would* get this fixed. Tickets have been submitted and closed with the simple reply of 'its being worked on' but that doesnt resolve the issue. Nor does it answer the questions? Are the items that are unable to be found currently going to be found again? I'm at a huge huge (did I mention, huge) loss because of this issue and I know a lot of people are as well. If it isnt fixed its only going to get worse and the sad thing is, most dont care if it doesnt affect them. Trust me, sooner or later it will.

Please vote in Jira for fixing this issue! Only 57 people have done so, and yet as you say it has been around forever and continues to dishearten all residents. It is SVC-114. Since JIRA can be a pain, hints on how to vote are below, apologies if you already know all this. *********************************************** The JIRA login page is at https://jira.secondlife.com/cas/login?service=https%3A%2F%2Fjira.secondlife.com%2F secure%2FDashboard.jspa-- If you know the bug number (like SVC-114), then enter it in the "Quick Search" field in the upper right of the JIRA screen. -- When the bug description comes up, look on the panel on the left side of the screen for the section called "Operations" (probably the last section) -- The last item in that section should be "Voting". A single click there will register your vote. The page will change to indicate that you now have voted for this bug. ALL DONE! ------------- The next time you log into Jira, you will see a set of links on the entry page like this: "My Unresolved Reported Issues | Votes " Click on the "Votes" part of the link and you will see the status of all issues you have voted for. Also, whenever you're looking at a bug description, in the far left panel you will see a line titled "Votes". This is the number of people who have voted for the issue, and if you click "View" there you can see their names. So you can IM your friends who haven't yet voted to do so <editted to add description on viewing voters>

Thanks for posting on how to vote on this issue. This has had me steamed since the .17 update, and more things disappear on an almost daily basis. Between items failing to rez, and "unable to create, item is missing from database", I've lost folders of entire wardrobes from stores.
The range of missing items is odd as well, items range from purchases that were made well over a year ago, to items that were bought and worn just hours before that update. I had considered requesting replacements from the creators I purchased from, but why should they be held "responsible" for LL's errors/lack of inventory stability? Also, sheer number of missing items would be like asking for over 30k worth of items to be replaced, some of which has been deleted by creators because they've shut down their shops or completely overhauled their own inventory of creations.
I put in a ticket about 3-4 weeks ago, and though it's been looked at, nothing has been done, and no reponse has been given. All in all, this really chaps my arse, and though I still like to check out new items/shops/creations, it's also severely curbed my linden spending, as I don't care to purchase more items that may or may not go missing at any given time.

I went and voted and even looked at the blog posts mentioned there as well...however, the blog post only seems to mention (in a nutshell) that they know of the problem and are working to provide a better system to keep the issue from happening again. It was a bug that has caused items to go missing, but there is no mention of perhaps a back up and a way to restore these items so, at best, I am SOL. If it was a small list of items I would replace them, easily, however I cant even make a list of all the items as they were boxed inside of boxes and those boxes are unpackable now. As mentioned above, I hesitate to shop anymore, and 50% of what I lost cannot even be replaced by the creators because I did a huge amount of shopping at 'inventory clean out' sales from designers that were no longer going to keep/hand out those items. I strongly encourage anyone that has had an issue with ANYthing missing from their inventory or land etc to go and vote for this. Having a fix to prevent this from occuring in the future is fantastic, but getting some feedback on helping with the past issue would be nice. The question, plain and simple, remains; Is this stuff gone forever because LL had no backup of the database that became bugged?

I refuse to purchase any more lindens until they fix this. It's been an ongoing issue for some time now, and a lot of people have lost a lot of things, sometimes irreplacable things. They are just stuff, and just virtual stuff, but it's real money going into it. They need to get this fixed before they bother with other things.

From: Toneless Tomba I mean if people were having problems with money transaction I bet it would fixed much quicker. The payment problems started appearing early this year and have been better, have been worse, but still not fixed. I don't think there's anything that still has any kind of higher priority.

This shaky abomination of an Inventory system has just deleted $100+ (that's US$, not Linden$!) of items I've bought in the last week furnishing my sim, and I'm not spending another bloody Linden until they pull their fingers out and fix this.
I was adjusting the object permissions on the land I'm renting, and one of them decided I didn't have permission and removed everything I'd built and all its contents. Despite the assurance that they were being returned to my Lost & Found folder, they never appeared anywhere in the inventory. Most of the copyable stuff is duplicated, and thus salvageable, but I've effectively lost everything that was "no copy", and I'm frankly pretty ****ed off.
SL has such huge potential, but with no security of ownership, who in their right minds is going to actually spend real money on stuff that can just evaporate like this? I don't remember where I bought half the stuff (I had naively assumed that once I had it, I'd have it for more than a few days!) so I have no recourse for much of it. I've IM'd the vendors I could identify, and grovelled in the hope of getting replacements, but who's to say the replacements won't evaporate next week?

If you haven't yet rezzed everything that was in Lost & Found, you should. When a large number of items are returned, they're usually coalesced into one or two objects. For example, something which says 'Teacup' might actually be your teacup, table, chairs, rug, flowers, and so on. Once you rez the coalesced object, it returns to its component parts and they can be picked or moved independently. So it's *possible* that your items aren't actually lost.

You are a genius! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I now have 1200+ objects (assuming they're all there) littering the lawn, including a full size church organ 30 metres above the ground! They were, indeed, all packed up in a stained glass window which (being copyable,) I had retrieved from elsewhere in the inventory. They didn't turn up in Search, so I assumed all was lost.

I tried to put 245 things into a box last nite and it kept failing, moving a folder of items into a prim for 'back up' time and time again ti would fail after my 'beam' to the prim would shoot for like 5 min no items would appear in the prim, i tried to take them one at a time and they would also fail to move, i asked around on the 'group im channels' and got some advice I found a empty sim, with like 10 empty sims all around it, some land baron's holding area? anyway on the empty sim in the middle of no where i made my cube, droped the folder in it, and it worked! only took a few moments! i guess a empty sim somehow makes inventory work correctly or something.... Just thot i would share incase it helps ya
