Group land settings privileges / deeding

Here's the deal:

I own some land outright in my name.
If I "set" the group setting on it to my group in the About Land "general" tab, , but do not yet officially "deed" the land, will the members of the group have the same access rights to the land as they will when I go ahead and click that "deed" button later? (I can't deed it you due to money and ownership stuff we are hammering out, but ultimately, the land will no longer be mine. I will deed it to the group, which is owned by someone else."

Will it work for group members (I leave auto-return on ) if it is "set" but not yet "deeded?"
And if so, will it be a problem later after the deeding, on the object settings they have been rezzing, as long as they have the proper group activated wehn they build?

Sorry this is so rambly - I can't think of a succinct way to phrase it.

Thanks,

Princess Ivory

I'm fairly (but not completely) certain that if you set the land to a group but do NOT deed it:

1) there will be NO problems with group set objects and autoreturn

2) your tenants / group members will NOT be able to access any of the land options (like terraforming, parcel settings, etc.)

As far as I can tell, not deeding mainland to a group makes it VERY restrictive for your tenants.

And after you deed it to group, be VERY careful with the group abilities that you grant tenants. One mistake, and they can sell the land from under you. And there are a number of "easy" mistakes to make.

Also, once you deed land to a group, some scripts will behave differently. For example, parcel media / audio radio scripts will need to be in prims that have ALSO been "Deeded to group" in order to function.

Thanks Ged.

In this case, I am holding the land for someone until they can raise the money to buy it from me. When that happens, I will no longer own the land, and I am not an owner of the group (but I am a member of it) I am deeding/selling it to. And I think as long as they give me the money directly with "pay" to my profile, I can just deed the land to the group directly, without having to "sell" it (which always seems to mess up settings when you are transferring between groups and individuals). Someone correct me if i am wrong here, but I do seem to remember having done it that way before.

What I am trying to do right now is give her and some other group members the ability to use the land, without having to wait until she can buy it. We are working together on a very large project, and she owns some of the land, and I own some of the land (or our respective groups do). Just trying to protect everyone, and still give maximum access to start building, etc on the land, if possible. And I don't want it to get trashed once we transfer ownership.

Does that make sense?

it sounds like there are more ppl in that group that have land resell roles besides u then

from expirience, keep the land under ur name and don`t deed it as they can kick u out without paying for it, trust no one when it comes to real money, use set as group but don`t deed untill u have the money in ur pocket

I have no intention of deeding to anyone or any group other than myself, until the money is paid to me.

I just wanted to find out if setting (not deeding) the land to the group now would give members the ability to build on the land etc, right now, instead of having to wait until the land is purchased from me.

From what people are saying, it sounds like it probably does.

Thanks everyone,

it *shouldn`t* be a problem, just have the builders set "allow transfer" on all objects so they can be transferd when changing ownership of the land so they don`t get returned for some reason (u never know these days)

Even setting the land to group can give people in the group who have assigned abilities in the group a great deal of power over your land. If you are not the owner of the group then you have no control over who can do what. If it were me, Id be very very wary of setting any land I owned to a group that I didnt own.

Even if I am NOT deeding it to them? If I am still listed as the land owner?

I think so yes......if you go to the 'Members and Roles' tab of the group, go to roles and click on the 'owner' ..... the list of the owners abilities are shown in a window at the bottom right of that window. I think you may find officers also have very many abilities that may mean they can sell/abandon your land if they want to. Double check it, but be wary. Ive read/heard so many tales of people who thought they could trust others or who didnt fully understand the different roles fucnctions/abilities within the group who have lost their land/money.

If you are the group owner of the group you set your land to then you have complete control. If its someone elses group, then you dont.
