I've been reading posts relating to search and the infamous traffic figure and have a few questions / thoughts.
I don't think LL should let us know exactly how traffic works or else 1,000 tricks would though of to beat the system. Google's search algorythm is not made public afterall.
Unlike Google, though traffic seems to be a very important factor that determines ranking. The main factor, I suspect, are the keywords.
But should this be the case? How about...
- Number of landmarks for each parcel (and resulting TPs)
- Number of teleports pointing each parcel (and resulting TPs)
- Content (eg. ratios between objects, scripts, textures, creators, built vs un-built terrain)
- Age of parcel and/or ownership
- Voting
- Slurl clicks
- Proportions / scale (tall objects on a small parcel would get a lower score)
An advanced mode would allow for these criteria to filter results.
It would be fantastic if the system could somehow give more relevance to places that are better quality (if the above criteria che be used to determine quality).
