I look at each upgrade hoping that LL will say that the automatic inventory folder opening bug will be fixed but so far my hopes have been dashed. This may not be a big deal to males who seldom change their clothes but to some females it is the BIGGEST BUG existing in SL. Has anyone heard anything? I have sent in bug reports but so far I have not seen anything that LL even acknowledges this as a bug.

Could you explain it or post a link to it? I don't know this one off the top of my head...
To answer the question: The more pressure put on LL to do something the less likely it is to happen. Havok 2 for example.

I don't think it's nearly a showstopper considering there is a workaround for it. Opening a new window fixes it immediately. It's annoying sure, but I guess I don't consider it anything close to a showstopper, which would have no work around - or affect permissions, security, etc.

I take it that doing File Close All Folders isn't suitable.

From: SuezanneC Baskerville I take it that doing File Close All Folders isn't suitable. Closing all files works if you want to do it every single time you open your inventory.

When you open the inventory, do you find things by typing in the search box?
I wonder if the open source coders could modify the inventory code to make it perform a File Close All Folders automatically on every Inventory open? And maybe add a "Close All Folders" to the File Create Sort Filters menu so when you do want to close them there is one less step in the process. And maybe add a shortcut key.

i hate this problem also, i really dont see how anyone gets around it... every time you open your inventory things stay opened, close all file works till you open your inventory again. why cant it stay where i leave it? even trying to drag some thing it jumps all over like it knows where it wants you to put stuff not where you want. relogging is the only way to reset folders... i havent been able to sort my inventory for months its way too anoying... typing in the search is the only way to find anything... but if you want to find whats in the same folder you cant unless you search each name.. because with folders open when you select the item you searched for and clear the search block the folders all open and you lost focus on the item... and i know SL is gona crash one day and lose everything and they will say its too much work to rebiuld so we are gona just wipe everything.... -LW

From: Susie Boffin As I implied males may not understand this... Um, I am not male I understand it well. Have you very simply gone up to "create" and open new? Then kill the current window completely, and you're good. It's not ideal, but it takes all of 2 seconds and works every time. I used to go through and try to close everything - but then, they pop back open again and it gets annoying so I don't bother with it. I just open a new window every time. Hope this helps and yes, though I'd like it to be fixed, I'm guessing it's low on the priorities

Yes, I know when they're going to fix it......but if I told you, I'd have to kill you.

Before the last update I dealt with the bug by minimizing my inventory instead of closing it, but since the last update minimizing things is one line higher up and covers up main chat making it an absolute pain .

Does anyone have a reliable method for reproducing this bug?
02-10-2007 05:37
I know that they recently fixed the opposite bug, where when you hid and then unhid the inventory it used to close all the folders that you were working with, which meant that all the folders that you had carefully found and opened for use (clothes, landmarks, attachments, etc), suddenly all disappeared (that took several months to get fixed).
I can imagine that all the folders (or random, whichever it is) popping open when you have *not* opened them is equally painful.
I remember the bug of ALL folders being open before, but that was only in the texture preview window, maybe this is related?

This inventory bug is QUITE annoying. It's not a showstopper to be sure but various quirks in the way the inventory works help contribute to this bug constantly showing.
When I get announcements from a store and check the attachment to see what's new, even if I decide to discard the image, the texture folder stays open the next time I open inventory.
Same thing with any textures or notecards that automatically open when I open a retail box. Those make my inventory notecard and texture folders stay open.
If I accidentally type something into the search window of the inventory all sorts of folders start opening, which happens somewhat often with the way the cursor focus behaves. I know I'm screwed because all of those folders will be open the next time.
Some greeter gives me an object, notecard, etc. That folder will be open on the next inventory check. My object folder is gigantic.
When I change an earring or any of the hundreds of clothing items, just for the heck of it, I know that when I drill down into a folder I have to deal with that folder again the next time I open my inventory. And I do really have to DRILL down through several folders to organize all the stuff. This is the one that annoys me the most.
I constantly go into landmarks to move around. That folder will be open. I have a lot of landmarks.
The inventory is the main folder that has to be used constantly! There are times I open the inventory about once a minute. I have to open a new inventory window EVERY SINGLE TIME unless I like to scroll through all the open folders.
They should make a checkbox preference for the inventory and call it "remember last opened windows".
