Finding Lost Items

Ok so I was happily setting out my new 10 meter TV screen, adjusting its position, when whoops, where did it go?! It is no longer in my inventory, not in lost and found file and I have searched the area repeatedly for it. Now am I being really stupid? Is there an easy way of locating items that are 'lost' like this? I would really really like my tv back. Would it be possible to create some kind of user operated item return function? Or maybe just a way to see the coordinates of a particular item you own? In the meantime if anyone can tell me how to get my tv back I would appreciate it sooo much! Thanks!

Hi Bonie, just a thought; were you near your boundary at the time? I shifted a fireplace through the wall of my house on my boundary .. must have crossed into the neighbours cos whoosh! .. gone! Thankfully they had auto-return on so it went to inventory. Your neighbour might not have that selected?

Still looking for a lost Arbor/Jacuzzi/Fireplace combo myself. It is very frustrating to loose items you spend a lot of money on. It has been over a week and I still have not received my item back. I am getting really agitated over the whole mess!

I've done that myself, bought a nice picture to put on the wall. While positioning it, zap...gone. I found it a little while later floating in someone elses back yard. Would be handy if auto-return defaulted to on when things are so easily lost like this.

What would be awesome is a view setting to always highlight objects you own so that you could fly around looking for glowing hidden objects. I've lost things while moving them because my mouse occasionally freaks out (it's an optical over a non-ideal surface; yeah, I should probably get a mousepad) and shoots whatever I'm editing into the next sim.

One thing to do is bring up the mini map and look for a blue teal color. Your items will show in that color.

If you were adjusting its location, its easy to slip and send it flying off in one of the three coordinate directions. Look along these lines and you have a good chance of finding it.

X east to west
Y south to north
Z down to up Maximum coordinate up it can go is 758 meters +/-

It is possible to accidently move a prim underground too. Disabling the camera constraints will allow you to look underground for it. I don't have the specific instructions with me on how to do that, but can provide them if needed.

I lost about $3000L worth of Dance animations recently when a friend shut down the Build on her Land, Since they never reappeared in either my Lost, and Found, Or in thier original place in Inventory, I'm assuming she "Cleared" the sim, Rather than Highlighting objects, and returned them. Land Owners, Be Careful of that "Clear land" command IF you intend to Keep anything from your Builds.

Lately this isn't a case of user error. I have had a jukebox and a 12K bed go poof when I pulled them out of inventory on my island in the last two days - and I assure you even after bug reporting I will never get them back. I am still waiting for a response to my last two lost inventory bug reports. Linden Lab says they are not responsible for any of your items being swallowed up by their server. So good luck.

Yep, same problem here. A house and some singing snowmen gone. Almost L$ 1,300.00 worth of stuff; probably never to be seen again. Frustrating to say the least. I'm not going to buy anything else until I'm confident these issues have been fixed.

when land is cleared suddenly, like a "prim" incident, we've had our share recently..anyway..seems multiple items tend to get "clumped" under one item..they have some fancy word for it in LL, coalescence or something like that..but if you look in "lost and found" you may see only one of your items...but wait...here's what you need to do..

go to a sandbox...lots of room, edit the ground or something, pull that one item out of inventory, and several items will come out with it. All arranged just as you had them before. If your really brave, bring this item out where it used to be in your house or wherever, and things will fall into place, if you have your edit on during this adventure, you can move the entire "clump" of things around at one time and reposition as it was.

Hope this helps...some items are not really missing, they are attached to just one showing in your lost and found...

Another way to find prims is to use scanners scripted for this. ScanFoo and Perfect Peepers are two that pop into my mind. Also, there are persons who offer this service in SL *waves hand and grins* and will come out to your property and search the surrounding areas for you if you don't wish to buy the scanners, don't understand them well, or jsut don't want to be bothered. I imagine more that offer the service (and other services) can be found in Classifieds.

My "Cozy Arbor w/ Poses" was returned to me yesterday!!! I was so excited however I had already assumed I would never see it again and bought another one. I guess maybe it is time to have a yard sale.

I've had stuff go missing too. We rented a house a few weeks ago for a month and towards the end of the month we went to the house and collected the items, including a L$2,000 sofa and chair, L$2,000 bed and lots of other stuff. Now today I went to my inventory to put the items into our new house on our own land and POOF gone!

It's strange because it's ALL of the items we had in the rented house that have disappeared, not just one.

Am I missing something here? I've IM'd the owner of the land we rented the house on and I've sent in a bug report to SL. Other than that, I guess I have to just sit and wait.. but should I have done something else ?

Ty for all the replies, and yes i think I am going to have to try the lost and found look through because at the moment I am finding that EVERYTHING sent back to my lost and found folder is disappearing. Grrr, anyway ty for all you answers and good luck to all the people going through what I am.

OK, so first, my little dog disappeared.

I was rezzing him in the middle of my own land, when I got an error and he disappeared. Like many of you he also did not show in my inventory. so I asked around and got little response.

Figuring it was just a weird accident I bought another. Keeping the new little dog in my inventory (call me gun shy) I rezed my bigger dog and he followed me around.

Usually I leave him on my property, when I log off, which always is fine, (...and my neighbors LOVE to make him bark....) But this time, when I logged back in, my big dog is frozen in a strange position AND neither my NEW little dog nor my OLD little dog are in my inventory.

What I find odd is, I KNOW they can't be elsewhere in the metaverse, as they always email or IM me to come and find them when they are "lost". So wherever they are, they are unable to contact me.....and they haven't eaten in DAYS!

Oh no, I feel so bad for you! I have items missing too. I asked Live help for help and someone referred me to a blog entry that stated nothing...

I've made bug reports...so hopefully some resolution, I remember a couple of years ago this happened...I've never recovered my Sky design furniture..

Items missing in inventory will often be returned if you clear cache in your preferences and relog.

You have dogs that can e-mail you, and your response is merely to wonder where they are? lol

Done that, I did that on the first day that I noticed my items missing. I also checked my other items in case they were 'hidden' but nothing.. I also sent a bug report, I've spoken to Live Help, plus I've asked people in SL AND posted on the forum..

Sooo, I'm still waiting for a response from someone, somewhere to tell me..

A) My L$5,000 (round about figure) will be returned
B) My items will be returned.
