This is the worst server uptime I have seen ever

I noticed that during or after these “attacks” the exchange rate for $Linden to $US is huge. I am guessing that is due to a high number of subscribers that are converting there Linden $ to RL US $ and leaving SL.

I for one decided not to set up my own Island. To subscribe to LL for the cost of server setup ($1250) and monthly maintenance ($195) does not make since to me at this time. I am sure I am not the only person that has decided against setting up an island in the past 2 weeks.

I sent IM’s to the LL rep posting the “We regret the…. The grid will be coming down… “ messages. The answer “was we understand your frustration….” I am not frustrated I am down rite angry!! Not frustrated.

I suggested that LL should gather payment information on all players in the form of a credit card. The LL rep’s answer was: This would limit the amount of people that can enjoy SL and also exclude many people wishing to join SL from other countries that do not have credit cards.

So this tells me that LL is more interested in having broke people, and people that are in countries that don’t have credit cards, log in SL, than they are in providing the SL service they agreed to provide to the people that pay for the SL service.

The sad truth is that there are most likely 10-12 people out there spoiling the fun and profit for the rest of us. SL is the most expensive server subscription I have ever heard of that is available to the general public. LL has a server up time that is considered completely unacceptable in the real world for server service providers.

The best thing we can do if stay on LL and tell them just how “angry” we are, and that we are way past “frustrated” with there up time and lack of security.

In the last 60 days LL has had there user information database hacked. So some hacker has every ones personal information (we were required to change our passwords)?. LL has been in emergency patch mode rolling back a poorly tested version update. SL has seen severe “down time” where they have lost potential new business and existing subscribers due to malicious attacks.

Companies that conduct business like this seldom succeed for long with out major changes for the better.

It has been my experience that the “cool people” or “people in the know” walk away from such problems and find a new way to entertain them selves. What remains is a push by the service provider to gain new subscribers from “New Markets” also known as foreign markets. Then what is left as subscribers are the “greifers” and “trouble makers”. Plus the people that do not have real lives.

So I hope LL gets there shit together soon before the group of subscribers reaches this critical point and nothing is left but a bunch of fruit cakes, ass-hats and “happy people” playing on 56k modems that do not speak the language of the internet which we all know is English.

Good Luck Governor Linden I hope you succeed FAST!!!!.

Vendar, you are an example of intolerance that itself should not be tolerated. Please delete Vendar's post. The language of the internet is the language of the user, not what you decide it is. You MIGHT have had a decent argument, except that you are myopic when it comes to culture.

Next time you want to post, decide whether you are acting out of your decidedly distasteful prejudices.

I WILL NOT TOLERATE INTOLERANCE! HEHE love it. ..Vendar you made some excellent points, but I must agree, the negative attitude towards those from other countries and non native english speakers was uncalled for, and really takes mucho points off.

I Love the Lindens and appreciate that they don't keep it running 24/7.
I only wish that they would double the fees so that I could show my appreciation even more.

(is that better?)

SWEET!!! I was not aware that there was any contractual uptime guarantee that LL "agreed to provide to the people that pay"!!!

Dude, can you send me a link to that? It might come in very handy.

as i see it, LL has this fantastic product, that we all admit we love, even with its numerous down times, and problems..BUT

Seems to me common sense would tell you, there are always going to be competitors, angry X employees, that are savvy enuff to cause real damage to the game, not to mention the kids that just get lucky. To me this should be their programmers number one priority to see that holes dont get in the grid that can be used for distruction. Oh the new whistles and bells are nice, dont get me wrong..but id sure like a lot less down time in this game. Yes alot of us do pay a huge amount of $$$$ for this game, we obviously think its worth it, or we wouldnt be doing it, but..if LL cant protect the paying customers of this game, whats the point??

(oh and the bugs that should have been caught, are really unexcusable, in my oppinion)

Yes i am angry too, a Saturday morning shot to chit, this is a huge money making day for alot of us, and those who had events planned as well, sad truely sad this is happening again...

I LOVE people from other countries I have been to the new Korean welcome center under construction in the main grid and eagerly await meeting people from Keora. I also enjoy the friendship and cultural exchange with my friends from Belgium, Mexico, the UK, Australia, Italy, and Canada. I love the cultural exchanges I have with these wonderful people.

That said English is and shall remain the language of the internet until China opens up and most us learn Mandarin or close our selves off from 2 billion people. It is my belief that Chinese will become the 2nd language of the internet if they are ever allowed to participate fully as a nation.

LL is in crisis mode this is my point. The fastest way for them to solve this situation is to REQUIRE a method to track the location and identity of the malicious people “attacking" and “exploiting” in SL All readers please note I am not prejudice to people that don’t live in the US.

I am prejudice toward DEV’s that can not secure there network and can not achieve a reasonable level of server up time. What we have here is a complete lack of respect to those of us that pay to be involved in SL and many of us are from countries other than the US.

If you have a good how to stop the Attacks lets hear it other wise stay on topic.

Re: Downtime

I can understand that no matter what business one is running, there is bound to be glitches and problems that must be addressed. What frustrates me the most is, SL seems to be down more often than it is up these days. When You send a bug into them, they never respond or leave it to fix until it becomes critical and they have no choice.

I like many enjoy the game, but I do think that the Lindons need to find a way to compensate everyone for the downtime. Either by adding extra lindons to the weekly amount they now give to those who get them, or a discount for those who pay for premium accounts.or both.

With any business, there is always room in their budgets for bonuses, so why not in SL. Its a business and for the number of people who paid to be in SL, they can certainly show good will and give something back, other than excuses.

This is only my opinion, I am sure there will be those who will disagree, and those who will agree fully, either way, i wish all a great day.

I think a better compensation might actually be to reduce the stipend, boosting the US$ value of each L$ ;) Half kidding there.

I think what's actually happening, judging by some non-verified friends, is that because of all the downtime, we are losing them anyways.

They came because of friends and could or might have added payment info and stimulated the economy, but the test run of this last month, why should they? Then they leave.

I'm thinking that the people who do care about SL that don't pay are gonna leave, there's no incentive to stay and there's no reason to sit around all day waiting for A) the grid to come up, or B) the next attack.

So really, we are counterbalancing the people that ARE coming because of unverifed by those leaving who are unverified anyways.
