Ummm, where's my stuff?

I have about 21,000 items in my inventory. When I logged on this morning, I only had a little over 6,000. All my clothes, shoes, skins, hair, landmarks and shapes are gone. I also build, which everything I was working on is gone including all my textures (which was the majority of my inventory) *cries*. Even the stuff on my back, the clothes and hair I logged out with are not in my inventory (in fact, I made the mistake of taking my clothes off which are now gone and now am writing this in the nude). Just hundreds of empty folders, in fact maybe around 6000 folders, because I cannot find anything yet of substance.

I have heard this happening from other people, and maybe it has happened to me before just not at this magnitude where I never noticed. Anyone have this happen to them? And what usually is done about it? I am not really upset with the clothes and skins, but it's the textures that I am sick over about.

My Master says that SL will not help and to wait a couple of months and it will usually come back and then it will be like Christmas, but is that the way to really run a business?

I am not asking for a reimbursement for anything, just want to know where my stuff is, why it happened, and when am I gonna get it back!

Losing most of your stuff to a technical glitch would be the ultimate in SUCK!
Some asset server is messing with your head, hopefully it recuperates from its breakdown. Go ahead, clear the cache. Cant hurt.

After you clear cache do a search in inventory for something and watch it all flood back in (I hope).

There's a blog about inventory items being misplaced. Not sure if that's the issue you have but it's probably worth a glance at the blog.

"Like Christmas" in the sense of having lots of cool stuff turn up as a surprise, not the date :)

I too am missing a few thousand items.

Yes theres a blog about things being misplaced... But my actual inventory count has gone extremely low and the items are nowhere to be found.

Not sure if the "misplacing" of items cause the inventory count to drop.

Im missing a ton of my textures and products from early on.

It might be that the inventory is just unusually slow to load. I mean, with 21,000 items, that can't be a fast process in the first place.

I ended up buying one of those texture organizer thingies to store my textures in, so I can just rez the organizer and pull out the texture I want to use instead of keeping thousands of textures sitting in my inventory all the time. It might be worth a shot - you could make backups that way too.

Clear the cache and repeat as needed. This happened to my partner, she lost more than half of a very large inventory. She had to clear the cache and relog several times, but eventually it all came back.

Clearing the cache actually does work in many cases (derided though it is as a stock answer) but don't give up if it doesn't work the first time.

When this happenedto me I was told to 1. clear my cache 2. to log into a mainland sim and 3. to wait atleast 5 mins before opening my inventory. This worked for me.

it actually does lower the count if dozens of things suddenly appear to be IN another item. i had that happen once, whena complete house with furniture vanished, after using "Take", and it had actually ended up INSIDE a...Moroccan teaglass in my inventory that was part of what I had taken.

Here is the blog post about inventory loss: http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/04/14/update-experiencing-inventory-loss-read-on/

Also, there is a proposal on jira to work on the problems concerning inventory loss and it needs your comment and votes. Please take the time to log into jira and vote/comment on this proposal: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-114

If I happen to lose all my stuff due to a "technical" glitch, I'll sell my sim, cash in what I have, and move out. The constant technical glitches will prove to be a financial glitch on my part.

I try really hard to have below 6000 items in the inventory.

If it passes that mark I organize it a different way, create boxes and store items I don't use often in them and label them ARCHIVE_something. You don't need to buy a fancy nothing, just store the stuff in plain wood cubes correctly identified and you'll cut the inventory at least by half.

Another thing I've learned is to create folders and a lot of subfolders. Stuff swimming in the inventory root is a good way to loose them in those glitches (I've experience the glitch once, was way over 6K of items but got it all back by clearing the cache).

LL does not have backups of your inventory, as far as I know.

I didnt take anything though.

Im missing TEXTURES and products that Ive had in my inventory for ages. I went to use some textures on a build and they were all gone and my inventory count dropped about 4k.
