Has any one been able to create an Alt account and link it to their main account on the same e-mail address ( for the $9.95 fee) this week? I tried and the system would not let me. I did a search and found many posts about this issue but all are from a week ago and none had an answer for this problem. Also sent in a support request - but no answer yet.

It's borked.
Try using your real information, but a different email account, that seems to work. You won't get the otion of paying the 10 dollar fee, but hey, if LL won't take your money, that's their fault. |

I am pretty sure you need a unique, real e-mail account for each new alt. The rest of the identifying info can be the same. No $9.95 fee will be charged, if you decline to go Premium. You can decline Premium and then go to the website to add your payment info, and that will add your credit info to the new account. But they won't charge you.

When I made my alt I posted here for advice. Then went through the process and could not find the button. So I emailed LL telling them my alt so I dont have to worry about it getting suspended. But now I wonder. can you pay -USD balances with lindens. At this point I do not wish to stick in 25$ but need to 0 the balance on m y alt. If I could just send in $9 worth of lindens from example SLExchange that would be better.

I posted the exact same question yesterday morning. There is no additional Alt anymore as far as I know. Just create new account with same details but you must change the email address.... if you don't change the email address you will get an error message and lose the AV name you chose.. |

I heard a few weeks ago that the system scans the database when an avatar updates its payment info. If the payment info on file matches (such as a credit card's number) another avatar's, it will charge one of the accounts 10 dollars. Is this true?

I dont know because I sent a email to billing explaining my new alt and all that. Updated the payment info then did not hear back until last week, some automated 1 sentance reply from LL then last monday was my alt account in the -9usd range |

This is not possble because LLABs needs to state this in the signup page before it occurs. Even if they state this in TOS its not clear enough to understand before the transation happens during the signup stage. |

I created an alt account on May 1st and verified it. A few hours after that, I found out about the $9.95, so I mailed the support in order to get my alt account "legalized". Got a support ticket but no answer yet. The polite reminder mail I sent after a week just returned with not much more but my own text cited. There's a hint in it, there might be more of an answer, but that I might have problems reading it if I use a Yahoo mail account. But I don't use yahoo, so actually I don't know if they sent me an answer or not. |

What's most troubling is that LL threatens to take away alt accounts that were opened under false pretenses, meaning that they weren't declared as alt accounts and billed the $9.95 fee, but it appears that their system right now won't LET people do it the correct way, forcing them to do what they're not supposed to do and can get their accounts closed for doing.

I have paypal setup on my account, and have used the same paypal account to setup for my RL fiance's avatar aswell. We have not been billed for an alt, and if we did I'd be straight on the telephone to LL to demand an answer as to why. |

It still clearly states at SL website that you can make as many alts as you wish, and they cost 9.95 US$ each. So there is no question about that, that what is the policy in this, there is only the question, that the system is broken. I have tried to make alts couple of times, and I always get the answer I can't make new accounts. I have not violated TOS in my knowledge, I have premium account and all that. Once I managed to create an alt with different email address, but when I tried to login to SL, I got the message it was disbanded, so I couldn't even create it that way. I have now sent an email to support and asked them about this, since I really would like to create an alt, and see no reason why I couldn't do it. I am just waiting for their answer now.

um no....it uses to be Used to be you mean? But I still find that information from the knowledgebase. No matter how I look for it, or where. If there's different knowledge there somewhere, a link might be helpful, since I can't seem to locate such. Edit: Here's the page I find in the subject: http://secure-web3.secondlife.com/knowledgebase/article.php?id=308 I just wonder where in it it says the policy has changed? |

You could also find references to First Land still being available for months after they shut down the land program.
As of about 3 to 4 months ago the Linden account registration process stopped even allowing you to enter billing information unless you elected at sign-up to go full Premium. _____________________

You could also find references to First Land still being available for months after they shut down the land program. Heck, the land ownership notecard still contains information even older than that regarding stipends. See direct quotes. I just obtained this notecard on Help Island TODAY, with my new alt: Q-3. What else do I get with the Premium Plan? * Full Second Life Access * Initial grant of L$1,000 * Weekly grant of L$500 (even if you don't log in) Q-9. What if I don't want to own land? The Basic access plan is the plan for you. For the low cost of free (USD$9.95 for secondary or alternate accounts), a Basic membership gives you these benefits: * Can access SL at any time. * Receive an initial grant of L$500 * Receive grants of L$50 and can earn other bonuses any week when logged in. For those of you who are newcomers, neither of these have been true for a very, very long time. _____________________

As of about 3 to 4 months ago the Linden account registration process stopped even allowing you to enter billing information unless you elected at sign-up to go full Premium. Interesting, I created an alt about 3 months ago, and could do it easily, and also enter billing information with no problems back then. To me it seems some people can create alts as much as they want to, and others can't. And what I have read from this forum, there seems to be no indication of who can, and who can't, it seems completely random. So I find it strange people make conclusions that it is the new policy, and not a bug or a clitch or such. Almost paranoid I'd say. ![]() And yes, I have gone through sign-up several times in the last couple of weeks trying to make a new alt. No, it doesn't say it anywhere there, that it will cost, nor does it ask if I already have an account, as it did when I created the first alt. It lets me through the first steps of creating an account, and then when I give it truthfully my email address which also my main account uses, it says I can't create any more accounts at this time. Once I tested if changing the email address makes a difference, and it did, until I tried to log into SL with it. Then I got that account disbanded completely. I would have paid to the LL afterwards of it, if I had been able to log inworld. But I wasn't. Also the information of that account had completely vanished from the website, so I of course can't do what is said in the blog, and go there to change it's information. Although I do know people who have made alts this way, and have had no problems. So to me all this seems just a mistake or a bug, not an actual policy the LL has now. Or how should I know, but it is not my way of assuming the worst every time something goes wrong. And I have never taken any of the notecards from the help island, I must confess, so I have no clue what they have said or say. Still, if the joining process indeed has changed, then it does seem very bad business to me to keep the old information on the website. At least they should close the whole knowledgebase for the time they write and make a new one. But I'll just wait and see what they answer (yes, they have answered to me pretty fast usually in the past), and hopefully I'll be wiser after that. |

Hi there. I am an alt
![]() Upon signing, I was not asked if mine was an alt. I used a different email address, for a better organization of my stuff. I entered the same credit card details I have for the main account (which is not premium, if that matters) and now credit card is into "update pending" status. What should I do to "legalize" my status? I have read the whole thread here, but I was wondering if anybody had a different story to tell me. _____________________

Hi everyone,
as I had the same prob, I tried the new support system. In less than 24 hours I got a reply. My second support experience, and again it was very fast....so I haven't had trouble with support yet. This is what they say: Greetings, Thank you for your inquiry. We are aware of the issue as were overhauling registrations right now. I have no ETA on when Alt Basics will be available again at this time. Regards, Warren Linden So we'll have to wait for a bit longer.... |
