I'm wondering if there is a tutorial or something out there that can help me learn to make body shapes in SL.

"The Official Guide to SL" has a very detailed and helpful explanation of all the Edit Appearance sliders and what their effect will be on your shape. I still use it for reference when developing a new shape.

Shapes are made using the built in Body editor...that's it.

Selling shapes is more of a service than a creation.

The number one thing you need to know is patience.

Start to really look at all the people you kniow, people on TV, photos, etc. Look at the proportions.

After that start experimenting.

Common mistakes for women; legs too long, waists too narrow, breasts and butts too big, eyes too large and too slanted, no attention paid to ears, or the bald head shape.

Common mistakes for men; so much muscles they look blocky, Narrow waists. Heads too round. Again eyes too large and too slanted. Legs much too long for their torsos, shoulders inhumanly wide.

Expect to spend a great deal of time learning how to do a good nose. Noses are evil.

Thats all the advice im giving my future competition :p :p

As far as I know there is no process for importing normal 3 D models into Second Life - for either avatars, Buildings, or anything else.

Whether this helps answers your question, of course you shouldnt say hehe

Good luck in any of your business ideas.

Well once you build your avatar using the appearance sliders you CAN save the body shape as an item in your inventory. You can drag this shape into a box and sell it.

I've got all that, and I don't consider any of it a 'mistake.' I appreciate your personal desire to create a realistic shape, but we're living in a cartoon world and, for me, too much realism looks out of place. Bottom line, though: if someone likes their av's appearance, that's all that really matters.

I do agree that noses are evil though. ;)

well a good point -

I actually sell a couple of intentionally exagerated shapes along those lines.

If thats how someone likes to look that is good. However many go extremely overboard.

PS

Of course however people want to look is fine =). IM normally asked often how to make a realisitc shape - so often I respond on autopilot.

Not meaning to imply anyone going for a non realisitc look is not as good.

well this is getting a little off the origonal subject that I Was thinking of, but I love the input. yes realistic is good, but you gotta love the over the top looks as well (IE FURRIES!!!) and at the risk of gettign my origonal idea stolen I was hoping to develop "flexi" body parts. I've been playing other computer games ( yes there are other games other thene SL!! LOL) and I noticed that they have what I call breast physics, was hoping to develop something like that for SL, but I'm stuck. If any one out there has ideas on how to possably do that it would be greatly appreciated. gotta love the bounceing boobs! LMAO!

This you can do .

Cutomize a shape with small breasts , than cover them up with larger flexi prim ones.

Or a shimmery tush

Or rubbery legs

hope that helps

basically you are combining a body shape - with prim attachments. What many Furries have done for years =)
