Why are gambling places listed in popular places?

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of removing all instances of them in the classifieds and trying to keep them low-key? Not that any real gambling goes on there. Mostly just campers.

They're "popular" because they have high traffic, which is caused by campers. The "popular" places can change depending on traffic values. Is that correct? (just checking.)

Traffic values are determined daily, and usually posted around 6am SLT,
popular places are completely based on traffic, and selected by a machine, not a person.

not all gaming establishments use campers, we for one do not have 1 single camp tool yet majority of the time are listed in the pop list.

The other part of it is,
people are still stupid enough to assume that they have a chance at winning in an SL casino, which is simply not the case, just like any online casino...or practically any RL casino, you are going to lose money, with a side effect of possible addiction.

Well I honestly don't have a problem with casinos that run purely from gambling... If it's popular because people are playing then that's fine. I'm just wondering why LL after making a such large moves against gambling still allows them to show up popular places. It just seems a little bit odd since the popular places list is kind of a giant classified. I mean what if some kind of sexual ageplay site becomes really popular? (god forbid)

Because quite frankly, it'd be too difficult to rewrite the popular places code to filter out gambling site? I dunno, I'd rather they didn't muck with that for fear it'd break the search again.

Because LL wants to be as laissez faire as it can be, and it has to cover its ass with RL busybodies from the FBI, German television and others who want to attack something like SL to advance their own agendas. Gamble, if you want to. Operate a "kasino" if you want to. Up to you. Your world, your imagination.

My understanding was that traffic as calculated now is going away to be replaced by some new system still being worked out. I'm not holding my breath, but am still quite hopeful it will really happen so that the current methods of gaming the traffic numbers will cease to function. Hopefully whatever methods of gaming the new system will take some time to be developed and we can see some reality behind the numbers for a while.

Obviously you are highly uninformed, yes it is true that the odds are favored towards the casino but that doesnt mean you cant win.

I am living proof of this and i am also very good at gambling (yes some gambling involves a degree of skill mainly the skill is knowing when to stop).

I rarely gamble in RL but do in SL and i am up all the time, yes i do lose sometimes but overall i am up and will always be.

If you dont want to gamble that is fine but dont go around making ignorant statements that have no basis of truth.
If you want evidence that people actually win in SL just go and hang out at myths poker house for a while.
or you could go and find yourself a nice freeplay zyngo machine and beat the pot just before the timer runs out so you can see what it is like to win (not sure you can even class this as gambling as it doesnt cost to play except time).

I won 16000L at a SL Casino and then never played again. I figured I won once and that I'll never win again.

I think they should get rid of the popular place list.

wow gambling is like the scourge. in australia we have casinos in every city, and pokies in every nieghbourhood.
that being said i do dislike sl casinos.
